Whey Protein And My Stomach Do Not Agree

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any problems with whey Protein? I only have 1 shake in the morning each day, Optimum Nutrition, but every afternoon I end up having a lot of gas and it's pretty bad, Gas X doesn't even help much. I'm thinking about trying Plantfusion protein, but was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions? I don't think I'm lactose intolerant as I can drink milk, eat cheese, etc. but something has to give and I know I can't get all my protein from food alone.

Try mixing it with juice instead of milk and see what happens.. I was never lactose intolerany until I was banded,

i get almost all of my Protein from food, and only have a homemade Protein Shake maybe once a week. I drink a "Boost protein drink" almost every A.M. then add in a during the day more protein sources like Peanut Butter, chicken teriyaki meatballs, Beans , nuts, hard boiled eggs, turkey burger, fish etc. Every little bit helps . Good luck !

Though it is still being debated as to whether "soy" is a complete Protein...it may be worth investigating. There are many soy based products which also provide a good source of Protein. I'm just not certain that it is considered to be the complete protein that whey is...

Best Wishes...

Buy yourself a small Whey Protein that is egg protein if the milk product is bothering you. It will be worth it to your maintaining your daily protein total.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
