Any Bandsters With Hypothyroid Condition>?

Recommended Posts

hi,

I was wondering someone with a hypothyroid condition and their results with Lap band. Is there a different rate you loose weight to someone that doesn't have a thyroid conditon? I know everyone looses weight at differentley however, someone with a slow thyroid is it slower than 1-2 lbs a week? I would appreciate any information on this. :)

Hello there,

After three years, my weight loss has slowed to a crawl, and I can feel my body had completely stopped losing anything. I got a diagnosis for hypothyrodism, and as soon as they figured out the correct dosage (it took about six months), I started losing weight again at the rate of 1lb a week or two weeks.

The most important thing is to be patient while they figure out the dosage. It is a very frustrating process.

Good luck!

It would depend on how well your thyroid is being regulated. I have been hypothyroid for more than 10 years and I see an Endocrinologist to keep it regulated with Synthroid. I did just fine with weight loss, you can see my timeline below. At about 9 months my Synthroid dosage needed to be lowered due to lower body weight.

I actually stopped in to LBT today to search around and see if anyone else has ever had issues with absorbing the medication and ran across your post. I have been at goal for some time now and I am starting to have issues with my thyroid again. Not sure why but I am apparently not absorbing my medication, my dosage has slowly gone from 50 up to 250 since December but my TSH levels just keep getting worse. Trying to see how crushing the pills help to absorb better. I have not gained weight but I am so sluggish my memory and mood swings are terrible, I am so cold I am wearing jackets in the Virginia summer heat and my hair is thinning.

jodi,

thank you for posting

i've had my thyroid regulated now for that past 16 yrs with synthroid. My levels have maintained normal for quite sometime now. it makes sense that the dosage would change due to the change of your body size.

I have hypothyroidism and although I am not banded yet, I have lost 27 pounds in the last 5 months. I too think it depends on how well your thyroid levels are controlled.

I have hypothyroidism that I control with Synthroid. I have lost 84lbs in the past 8 months, but my doc is watching my levels closely.

I do. I actually spoke with my doctor about this today and she said we will just monitor every 6 weeks or so (more if I am feeling bad) to make sure my levels are ok due to absorption and weight loss.

I have hypEr thyroidism, not hypO thyroidism. Hyper is low levels, which can effect weight loss. People with hypo have high levels, which is usually found in skinnier folks- high levels can cause someone to be thin.

There are people who go between both types and there are bigger folks that have hypO thyroid conditions.

I am on synthroid for mine and get checked periodically.

I agree. I have hypothroidism. Low thyroid hormones which makes your TSH levels high. Synthoid is a synthetic hormone to replace what your body isn't making. Weight gain is just one of the symptoms.

I had the same question when I was thinking of getting the lapband surgery. I had thyroid cancer 8 yrs ago, no thyroid at all now, but just taking meds. My Endo keeps me hyperthyroid which is overactive, hypo IS underactive. {to keep the cancer at bay} on high doses of thyroid meds. I've lost 50lbs in 5 mths, I'm 57, not a young 'chick' but still young. My Endo has been decreasing my medication each month as I've been losing weight and so far so good.

I've plateaued for the past month but I believe it's due to my not working out due to the heat. I am back working out and know I'll see the numbers on the scale going down.

Besides making the right food choices, exercise is crucial with keeping on the program losiing weight and maintaining. Good luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
