So today is day 5 of my liquid pre op diet and yesterday we we at the lake, my bother in law brought his girlfriend and I just don't feel like she is my friend and someone I want to talk to about it. So I tried to kind of keep it on the down low.

How do any of you handle these situations? I am not really embarrassed, I just don't want their comments or advice. :)

I have struggled with my weight my whole life, and after every failed diet, I finally have the chance to have this paid for.

I hear you! I am telling only certain people that I absolutely trust not to judge me or say something stupid or hurtful. I have not had surgery yet, but I plan to handle questions with something along the lines of "Oh, I am trying something new that seems to be working well for me." and leave it at that.

Good! Let's remind each other this is what we intended to do when we are down because someone has bothered us, ok?

When I was doing the pre-op if I was questioned about the liquid diet, I would say that I was preparing for my upcoming hernia surgery. blah, blah something about the doctor says that I will have a better outcome if I shrink my liver..

Gosh I felt exactly the same, it's been over a year I've had the surgery done, but only a couple of people know about it, some judge too much, the commentaries are unnecessary, best thing to do is just say you're trying a new diet, its what I've been saying and managed to keep it down low without anyone being suspicious

Good Luck on your surgery! :)

I am a very private person to begin with, and I do not plan on telling people about my surgery. Right now, the only people who know are my husband and children, my mom and dad, and my best friend.

I have already been contemplating what I'm going to tell my boss and co-workers as to why I need the time off. I was thinking gallblader surgery, but hernia works too :)

I guess when I start dropping weight and people start asking questions, I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I'll probably just say I've been watching what I eat and excercising.... it is true, after all :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
