Day 15 down 21 pounds

Recommended Posts

Hi friends, went to my Family doc yesterday and my blood pressure was 110/78! Wow it was never this low. He was happy. Im doing well, eating eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna, oatmeal. I get full very fast. Drinking Crystal Lite and Isopure. Having problemd getting in all the Protein but Im trying. My 3 inch incision is healed well, but I am still swollen in that area and have muscle/pulling pain. Will that ever go away? Of course I think the worst and I will have this pain and swelling forever......I just want to get better. I get pains in that larde incision area and the nurse said its normal healing pains. Sometimes they are quick sharp pains, she mentioned scar tissue can be forming. People at work here said of you look like you lost weight, your face is skinny! Wow that was quick. I really cant wait to start excersing because I really have a fat upper and lower belly that really needs to shrink. I hope all who have had the lap band are doing well!

Hi,

I too had the pulling and sharp pains in my large incision area. I'm now just over three weeks post op and I still feel it, especially in the morning. Don't worry, it's not forever. I know exactly how you feel and believe me, I felt the same way just a week ago, but I do feel better every day. In fact, the only time I feel the pulling and soreness bad is in the morning when I first wake up. Congratulations on losing 21 pounds!!! That is incredible!

Thank you Sunta, Glad to hear that your doing well also! I look foreward to that pain going away. I walked for a bit at lunch today and now I really hurt. I kind of walkd like an old Lady! My swelling is still there also. Just a few bites of food is all I can eat. How is your mushies going?

I'm starting to get some pains associated with movements (e.g. stretching, twisting...) that I didn't have before surgery, but aren't in the area of any incisions. I hope they didn't leave something inside me. :)

Any problems with the oatmeal going down? I haven't tried it yet b/c I wasn't sure how it would do.

Hi,

I'm not allowed to be on mushies until another week! Can you believe it? Four weeks on liquids! I'm so hungry all the time it's crazy. I've never seen such a conservative time frame for liquids. I think my doctor is the worst with that! But in all other ways, I'm feeling quite good. It did take up until just these past few days to really start feeling like my old self again. Don't worry, you'll get there!

the pains are normal, the doctor said they are healing pains and scar tissue/nerve endings also coming back to life.

Hi Newbies! Gosh, I guess I'm still a newbie although I had my surgery on 1/31/06. Anyway, just wanted to reassure you all that the pain/pulling at the port incision is TOTALLY normal. I'd go a week with it getting better everyday and then, BOOM, out of nowhere it would start hurting again and I'd have to baby it for a few days. I'm almost exactly 6 weeks out now though and (knock on wood!) I think the incision pain has pretty much passed. These sensations are completely normal-- remember that they sewed the port into your abdominal muscle so of COURSE it's going to hurt, especially when you're moving around and whatnot. I realized after my surgery just how much you use your abs, even just to stand up, roll over in bed, etc. You never really realized it before! Anyway, my incision can still be a little tender in the new skin area, but no more sharp pains. I'm such a baby though because I'm still too scared to "look" for my port by probing it. I figure that I don't want to upset the muscles by digging in there so I'll just leave it alone. A lot of people love trying to find their port but I'd prefer to pretend like it didn't exist :hat::)

My one piece of advice though is this -- the ABSOLUTELY WORST THING YOU CAN DO is sit around after surgery and read all the threads about erosion, port infections, slippage, etc. Take my advice and stay off the boards a few days if you have to. Your brain is one of the most powerful (and manipulative) things in the world. I know that for me, reading about people who had negative experiences made ME feel negative! And who the heck needs that! Just focus on healing for now and sticking to your post-op diet. The more you focus on the pain, the more you'll be in pain!!

Good luck to you guys! Wish me good luck too since I go in for my first fill on Friday and I'm totally nervous about it!!

Suzanne

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
