Having Trouble Eating Enough

Recommended Posts

This seems like a stupid complaint but what is going on is that I just don't want food. I have 6cc in the band and feel no restriction however I just don't think about food. I think about exercise all the time and spend most of my free time at the Y. Every day I have about 900 calories left on my fitness pal. I am concerned that this is pathological. I am losing wait at about 2-3 lbs a week which I understand is normal. Just looking for anyone who feels or felt this way.

I feel like you also. I hardly ever make it to 900 calories in a day, I exercise and am losing about 10 lbs a month. I do think about food but I have restriction and have from the beginning. I guess I don't worry so much about how much I'm eating but more about how healthy I'm eating

I could be wrong, but if you're not hungry or thinking about food, then it sounds like you do have restriction.

Restriction with the band doesn't literally restrict what you eat or stop you from eating, nor is it supposed to make you feel stuffed full. It makes you satisfied with less food for longer time periods, which sounds like what you are describing.

Before I had restriction, I was eating 1100-1200 calories a day. Since my last fill in May, I usually only eat around 900 calories a day, sometimes even less. My surgeon said quite simply- if you're not hungry don't eat. It's ok if you're getting less calories as long as the food you are eating is healthy and you're not hungry.

Sounds to me like things are going well. Not sure what you are looking for. You are not hungry and you are losing weight - what exactly do you think is wrong?

I understand your concerns...I also have issues getting enough calories in...I just make sure to get my 70 grams of Protein in, and take my vitamins...then eat 3 meals a day, tho a 'meal' could consist of a cup of yogurt or just a piece of fish, sometimes a protein shake...depending on the day...

Thanks for all the responses! I think everyone is right. I had not considered that I could have restriction without the pb, stuck episodes, or vomiting. Maybe I just get to miss that part. I just am concerned that not getting enough calories will slow or stop my weight loss. Which is how I got to all the exercising.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
