Flying Rrght After A Fill?

Recommended Posts

I will be getting my first fill in September, then I have to fly five days later.

Can anyone share their experience so soon after a fill?

Should I change my appointment until I return?

Thanks!

I had read before that some people experience the band tightening because of the cabin pressure. But i am sure everyone is different. I personally have not flown after a fill.

I think you should be fine. I have flown several times, with no problems. I would be concerned if you were going away, right after the fill. You want to be around incase your fill is too much and you need to go back to the surgeon and have a bit taken out. 5 days is plenty of time for that.

I'm flying next week, has anyone had a problem with the scanners? I do keep my card in my wallet, so hopefully, I won't. I'm just worried about being embarrassed, I guess.

I didn't sound any alarms! I was a

Little anxious about that too, but nobody questioned me or stopped me at all. I fly home Sunday, I'll let everyone know

If I have any problems in a different airport.

I fly a few times a month for work, and have had very little issue since having the band. The only issues I've had were a pressure where the band is when my plane had to quickly climb higher to avoid a storm front, and I've had to stick to a liquid/mushy diet on my first day when I land in a high altitude city (i.e., I live I Boston at 19ft above sea level, but travel to Denver 5280ft above sea level quite a bit). I also have learned to eat far enough in advance of my flight so that most of my meal, if not all, has gone through the band. The pressure is a lot more intense if there is food hanging around. Make sure to drink a lot of Water before during and after the flight since the cabin air will dry you out!

Full body scanner, I did once, no issue.

If it were me, I would postpone until after the trip. I always tighten up when I travel, no matter what the mode. I believe it is the stress. But if you have trouble, you'll be far away from your surgeon. I'd rather wait and be home. Fills can take up to 2 weeks to kick in.

I've needed 2 unfills. I went to Las Vegas after the fill when I needed the first unfill. It was a miserable trip. I was urping in public toilets the entire weekend, and could not wait to get home to see my surgeon. I did not get to enjoy myself at all.

Just my 2 cents..this is a long journey. There is no rush to get fills.

Ok... I flew back to fl today. I was super stressed for some reason. Flight got a little bumpy and the beginning of the flight was pretty rough put of logan airport!!! Anyway, I did get a little tight. Not sure if it was the altitude or stress. I flew last week with no problems. I went through security again with no issues at all. I really think my tightness was from my stress and it wasnt really a problem, just was aware of the tightness.

I got a card with my box. You can order a permanent one from lapband.com. It's free.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
