I am 3.5 weeks post op and have been eating slowly, chewing my food and having no issues. Today I had lunch during a meeting and I guess I got caught up and started taking to big of bites.

I have this horrible pain under my left rib cage. It’s a shooting, stabbing pain. It has been going on for about 4 hours now. What should I go? I actually almost buckled from the pain in the hallway at work. I have taken some papaya enzymes just to see if it would help, but no luck. I have left a message with the nurse just waiting to hear back.

Does it feel like food is stuck? Any sweating or nausea? When I had pain under my ribcage... it was my gallbladder. When I am stuck, it feels higher up in my mid chest. I hope you feel better soon and that the nurse gets back to you soon!!

No food stuck. I just ate dinner and everything went fine. The nurse never called back! Not very happy about that.

Sorry, little confused. Are you saying you can eat but are still having the pain? It does sound like you had a bad stuck episode.

Yes, I can eat just fine. I have never been stuck before but I would imagine it to be somewhere near my chest. I, of course, could be wrong but the pain was right under neath my left ribcage. This morning when I woke up it was gone, so hopefully it will remain that way.

The stuck feeling is more in the middle of your chest, not under the rib age for me

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
