When Did You Start Full Solids?

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I was just wondering when everyone graduated from mushies to solid food. Tomorrow is four weeks post-op for me, and I haven't attempted solids yet. I have not had any complications or problems with any mushies that I've tried (except I had some Soup that was too rich and gave me some wicked gas!) What are some good foods to try for my first solids in about seven weeks?

Did you not get instructions from your surgeons office. I can't really give advice as my banding isn't until Sept, but I received a 2 inch thick manual of all the do's and don't including a day by day, week by week eating instructions, including what was and was not allowed at the various stages of my recovery. I am guessing it will be my bible. I would be on the phone with your dr's office immediatly regarding your meal requirements.

I did surgery, then 2 days of water/protein drinks, 2 weeks of full liquids, 2 weeks of mushies, and then onto regular foods. My "regular" foods consist only of Protein, fruit, and veggies. The key with trying new foods is to introduce them one at a time, in case you have a bad feeling after one you'll know which one it was. I'm trying to find ways to spice up my eating plan, but I've kept it pretty basic so far.

The nutritionist at the hospital did give me info, but I was curious what worked for other people. Each surgeon's office varies so much.

My post op instructions are one week of liquids, one week of mushies, third week introduce solids . I didn't introduce solids till close to the end of my third week as I was too scared to try solids and personally felt I wasn't ready for solids.

A few days ago I did try some bread and my first tiny bite was fine, my second bite I was distracted and down it went when I realised opppps I didn't chew that well and it was to big a bite and boy did I feel it. So for now bread is off my list.

Wishing you well!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
