Dizziness And Passing Out

Recommended Posts

I had my last fill about 3 weeks ago. Since then I have been getting dizzy and even once passed out. The first 2 times, I thought it was because of the heat. First time I was in the sun for 3 hours on an open car train. When I came in out of the sun, I got extremely dizzy. But I drank a bottle of Water and I was fine. The second time came exactly a week later, I was at a music festival and helping with a hot air balloon. I was standing in the basket of the balloon (it was NOT off the ground) when I became VERY dizzy (It was about 130 degrees in the basket). I blacked out, and then passed out, falling out of the basket onto my face.

Both times, I thought was because I became overheated. However, the past couple of days, I have been in my air conditioned office, just standing there and all of a sudden become super dizzy. I have not seen the black spots or passed out, just dizzy for a few miutes. I am making sure I am hydrated.

Could this be from me not eating enough? (I eat 3-4 bites beore I'm full, if I eat more than that I get the slime attack or miserable) It happened again today, and someone suggested it could be electrolytes, so I bought a gatorade and drinking that (not sugar free, to hopefully bring up my blood sugar too)

I am getting quite concerned, but dont want to get in to the dr today because I am leaving on vacation tomorrow. I dont want to have something happen while I'm on vacation either. Especially since I will be in Vegas and So Cal, where the temps are well over 100 everyday right now.

Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks for any thoughts or ideas!

It could be many things - some harmless and some you may want to pay attention to. I would put a call into your doctor and just run it past him or the nurse. I get dizzy spells every now and then but I also have a heart arrythmia issue (I've had two ablations already).

Is it related to any certain time a day? Like, maybe you're going too long in between meals? You could be dehydrated, low blood sugar...the possiblities are endless but if you run it past your doctor, and explain you're going out of town tomorrow and it's a concern, he may have some advice for your.

I started having the same issue just after I passed out having my first fill. I have been dizzy or very smears feeling off and on since then. I have issues with my vagas nerve which is the actual cause of my passing out. That may be something to look into and also I am finding with more restriction I am eating very little which can make blood sugar low. I would definantly just put a call into the surgeon before you leave for vacation. You don't want to have major issues while on vacation if it can be helped.

It could be all sorts of things. Low blood sugar, low Iron, low BP ...........

As the others have said you need to see a Dr and get this checked.

I am a bit concerned though with what you (are not) eating. If you say that you can only eat 3 -4 bites before you start sliming then you have an issue. I would say that either you are too tight or you are not following the guidelines properley. I know that many people strive to only be able to eat 3 - 4 bites post band and be full but that is not what you should be aiming for. It is not realistic and there is no way that you will be able to get the nutrition you need from such a small quantity of food.

Go to your dr. Sounds to me as though you are more likely to have issues on your vacation if you don't go to your dr than if you do! Go to your dr.

You are not eating enough! You need to be eating 3 oz of solid Protein PLUS veggies lunch and dinner. You are NOT doing that on 3 bites!!!!

When I was 19 I lost over a hundred pounds. I was in college and would eat lunch at 11; go to class all afternoon went directly to my on campus job (cleaning the library) and have dinner at 9:30. I remember getting tunnel vision and dizzy spells.

I know this sounds rude but I am going to say it anyway. I was 19, need I say more! You need to deal with this issue. You can be a danger to others in this state!!! Whatever you don't drive!

Interesting enough, my husband had the Vertical sleeve back in October. Since then he's passed out 6 or more times. Plus dizzy all the time. After a ER visit and a couple cardiologists later he was diagnosed with vasovagel syncope! He went through numerous tests and now on medication. He is 37 yrs old and on Monday he's going in to get a pacemaker. Be sure on vacation to drink at least 3 liters of Water a day. Increase your salt intake and try and avoid prolonged heat exposure. Immediately see a doctor when you get home. There's so many reasons people pass out and get dizzy. Most the time it's harmless but it could be a serious issue so please get checked out.

OK, So I called my Dr yesterday and talked to the nurse. She suggested that I add an additional Protein Shake in the afternoon and a small snack before bed. So, today, I am going to eat 6 small meals and see if that helps.

To me it sounds like you are not eating enough. 3-4 bites before feeling full does not seem normal to me, even as a bandster. My first suggestion is to call your doctor. Second is to get a slight unfill.

Until you can do either of those things, I would recommend increasing your calorie intake. I'm not saying go eat ice cream and gorge out on liquids. However, some things that have helped me when I wasn't able to eat much and have had similar sypmtoms you describe were to first drink LOTS of gatorade. Second, I always have Tomato Soup on hand. They have some good campbell Soup ones like Zesty Tomato Soup or Basil Tomato Bisque...etc... and I sip on that. Also, the idahoan instant mash potatos have saved me numerous times....pour em in with more Water than you usually would and then heat for like 4 minutes and munch on those. You can make them pretty watery and still tasty so they can go down.

These things are not part of my "normal" diet...I only resort to this diet if I have not been able to eat at all. For me, it has always worked.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
