Craziest Things People Have Said Coming From Under General Anesthesia...

Recommended Posts

I spoke in French ( a language I am not that good in) and then was pissed when the nurse was English-only speaking.

When my brother came out from anesthesia, he started speaking in French to the nurse. We lived in a francophone area of the country, and the nurse was french canadian, so she was chatting with him. She came out to talk to my mom, and spoke to her in French. My mom replied in French, but it's not her first language and said, "Why aren't we speaking in English?". The woman said, "Oh I assumed you did because your son does".

Of course my mom looks confused and says "My son has had four years of french and nearly flunked them all".

But there he was, chatting away with our little French nurse. A day later he didn't remember it and went back to failing French. Totally bizarre.

A week after having lapband surgery, I had surgery on my foot for a hammerhead toe. When I came to I said "Where is he?" To which the happy juice guy said "Who me?" I said "No! I want the chocolate one! He was fine!" They told me they would get him and I would see him in recovery. Thank God I never did because as soon as I realized what I said, I was super embarassed!

When they woke me up on the table they all still had their face masks on so all I could see was their eyes. I was banded in Mexico and I had been talking to my husband about how all the Doctors and nurses looked like they belonged in a Novela (a mexican soap opera) all really good looking. Anyway, I kept going on and on about how perfect their eyebrows were! HAHAHA:tongue:

I've been LOL at all of your stories.

When I came out of anesthesia, my first concern should have been my lap band, but my first question was how my liver looked. I was obviously obsessed with my liver shrinking diet.

I had to have a lap surgery for endometriosis about 7 years ago. Apparently as I was waking up, I kept asking the nurses if my husband had had Breakfast yet. I also kept asking him what he ate for Breakfast. My first "real" memory is when I looked at him and said, "Did you get to eat breakfast?" He rolled his eyes and said he had. I asked why he rolled his eyes and he said that was at least the 10th time I asked that and he was about to not answer because he just knew I wouldn't remember.

As for coming out of the LapBand surgery, the only thing I asked was "did everything go OK, do I have a band?" and the nurses assured me that things went great and I do have a band. :yikes:

After I had my band and they woke me up I was told that I started feeling my body up and down (as best I could laying down) and when I felt myself I yelled out "Oh my God, I'm f*cking alive".

I wish I had a video of that.

I really don't remember much about waking up from the few times I have been under. I usually wake up upset, thirsty, sick ect...not fun. But my DH, lol, we had a fun time with his wisdom teeth. I dropped him off at the oral sugerons, I went to run and get his perscriptions while he was in surgery, it took a little while and they got done with his surgery pretty fast so they called me to come get him. I came back, he was totally out of it, we got him in the car and headed home. On the way home he pulls out this NASTY ziploc bag with 4 bloody teeth in it. I was like WTF, he said the doctor let him keep his teeth. I was like seriously??? lol, why would they do that? He said that he had asked for them, haha. So on the way home on the freeway, he proceeded to show EVERY car we passed his nasty bloody bag of teeth. I had to stop for gas too, I tried to tell him to be quiet but the person pumping gas next to us got an ear and an eye full. Needless to say, its a humerous memory :(

My best friend had some dental procedure, I think it was having her wisdom teeth pulled. She hadn't slept much the night before, but the anesthesia wasn't working. They still had ether at that time, and gave her that. She said she was dreaming that she was dancing, and there were psychedelic lights flashing. When she woke up, she was moving her feet.

this isn't coming out of surgery, but, when I was a kid, I had two eye surgeries. The first one I didn't really understand what was happening. They put a mask over my face, and I kept yelling, "Take it off! Take it off!" Of course, every time I took a breath, I was inhaling ether. And I was out. the second time I knew what was happening, so I somehow wrapped my arms around the gurney, and they had to pry me loose. I bit the doctor!

After my upper GI they were wheeling me into recovery and i was singing at the top of my lungs "HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW!!!WEEEEEEEEEEEE"

My husband said "Is she all right?"

And whenI passed gas, I announced it to everybody "Oh my God, I farted. I farted again. Oh you think I'm gross don't you?" AS my husband tried to quiet me.

After lap band surgery I said to the recovery nurse," Dorcus, I'm hurting." She looked at me kind of funny, and got me pain medicine. Then I said, "Dorcus, I need my glasses." When she got them for me, I noticed her name was Debbie. I said"I'm so sorry, I kept calling you Dorcus. Is there somebody here named Dorcus?" She laughed and said, "Honey, the secretary that checked you in this morning is named Dorcus." Well thank God i didn't make it up.

That is hilarious.....I could barely quit laughing....thanks for posting

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
