I had my port repaired and I feel like CRAP!!!!

Recommended Posts

I went in on Thursday to have my flipped port repaired. Well everything went well and I thought it would be smooth sailing as when I got out of the OR I was fine. Boy was I wrong. The pain started hitting me about 6 that night so I took some of the pain medicine that the doc had prescribed. That was a mistake. I got dizzy and nauseous so bad!! Anyways this morning I called him and he told me to take some liquid Tylenol and so far that hasn't been doing anything for me. To top it all off......I am getting a cold. I have a runny nose and a cough and sneezing and boy does it ever hurt when I cough or sneeze. I am a walking disaster!!! I am PRAYING that this doesn't last too long.........

Hi Carmen,

I am sorry to hear that you are having so much pain. I remember my first 2 weeks post-op... I kept getting a tickle in my throat which made me need to cough, or I would have to sneeze or just plain blow my nose... ALL of it was extremely painful and made me feel like I was busting a gut. I finally determined that if I layed on a stack of pillows before doing any of the above, it was much less painfull.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Carman,

I kind of know how you are feeling I had my port replaced Tuesday 3/2 and I'm still in a lot of pain. I think this is worse then the surgery of having the band placed it self. I also had a fill done at the same time so I'm adjusting to the fill and the pain at the same time I also had to cough a few times and all I could do was call on God

Anyway I hope you feel better I'am trying I go back to work to night and hope I can last all night. Take care Angelina

It is ALL so subjective.

I went with a patient who had a port replaced. She chose to have the surgery while awake and then she drove home. Four hours or so.

If you were intubated for the surgery (some are, some are not), the "I'm getting a cold and sore throat" feeling is the result of having had a piece of plastic shoved down your throat. It is likely more an irritation than a virus.

Well just to let you all know everything is fine and I am feeling 100 % now!! I was totally awake for the surgery. It was an actual cold that I was getting. It moved from my kids to me and that is what was causing all the problems. I am fine now though and ready to get back on the band wagon! lolol

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
