I am on a very hard pre diet. All liquids, no meat, cheese, sugar, fruits or veggies. I can have diet juices and grits, frozen lowfat yogurt, sherbert, pudding and Jello and I can have lowfat broth (Yuk) not much I like on there but I have been following it as close as possible and in 3 days have lost 4.8 pounds of what is probably Water weight. I've dranks lots of water mixed with propel and cran-grape. Here is the problem last night I realized that my cran grape juice is the lite and not diet. It only has 50 calories and no fat but has 10% sugar!!! Now I'm freaking out worried I have messed up everything due to my enlarged liver I'm really nervous and want to do everything right.

Here is a copy of the nutrition amounts, the carbs & sugar scare me!

The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver not to lose weight (a smaller liver makes it easier for the doctor to install the lap-band during the surgery). Based on the diet you described, you are already having carbs, anyhow (grits, frozen yogurt, etc) so I wouldn't lose any sleep over this.

yea I would'nt worry either. I honestly wasn't the best about following my diet plan prior to surgery and was just fine. Like the other woman said, they are just trying to shrink your liver so they can put the band in more easily. I wouldn't worry though!!

You're fine. We all have enlarged livers due to our weight. My dr told me that losing weigt pre-op (any amount) will help shrink the liver. He said almost 1/2 the weight I would lose pre-op would be from my liver. Just keep doing what you are doing and you should be fine!

according to Dr. Oz (I love him) the liver will shrink by losing 4-7% of body weight. Those are very good numbers in my book :)

I read that manipulating the liver during band surgery is like trying to move a bowl of Jello with chopsticks so I think that anything we can do to make the surgeon's job easier is definitely worth doing to the best of our ability! Plus, i know my surgeon has cancelled someone's surgery, after starting, because they didn't follow the pre-op diet and shrink their liver. I know because he postponed one of my fill appointments and explained what had happened when I was rescheduled.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
