Hi. I am new to this forum. I went with my dad to a WL seminar in January to support him. Going to the meeting and hearing other people's lifelong weight battles really did something to me. I found out my insurance would cover the surgery and from that moment I was hooked, lined and sinkered. I began the process in January. I went to a nutritionist and had a psych eval. I also had to have an upper Gi test done. I was jumping through all the hoops I had to. I was scheduled for surgery on July 17th at 9:30am. I had to have pre op testing the day before. I had bloodwork, an EKG, a pregnancy test. They sent me home with a special soap to use 3 times before surgery. My husband got me to the hospital at 7:30am. They took me right back to pre op and had me change into a hospital gown and hooked me up to an IV. The anathesiologist came and told me that they were going to put me to sleep and put the band and the port in and then wake me up. The doctors and nurses at memorial hospital were great. My surgeon, Dr. John Deperi came in and asked me if I needed anything. He explained that the procedure would be less than an hour and that I wouldn't remember much. The last thing I remember is them asking my name. I woke up in the recovery room and the surgeon asked me if I was ok. I said my stomach hurts and he called he nurse over to give me some pain meds. My chest was hurting the most and they told me that it was from the gas they used and that lasted about a day. Getting up and walking around alleviated some of it. I was released the same day. I haven't slept much because it still hurts a lot. I'm glad I finally did it and I'm looking forward to my new life.

Congratulations and welcome. It's great to hear you are resting at home in your own surroundings.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Do you by chance live in Jacksonville, FL? I do and I'm getting banded tomorrow 7/20 at Memorial Hospital. Dr. Baptista is my surgeon.

I felt like I was just reading my own story! I went with my Dad to a WL Seminar and we both decided to have the surgery! We're still in the beginning stages with the insurance company but hopefully will be banded in either February or March! :D

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
