Protein Shakes Enough For A Breakfast Meal?

Recommended Posts

I noticed that a lot of folks use Protein shakes, for various reasons.

I was wondering if I do try the shakes for Breakfast, will that be enough to fill me and support the role of breakfast being the most important meal?

Yes...though eventually we are supposed to get all of our nutritional needs met with a diet of regular foods. You will increase the Protein content of the shake if you mix the Protein powder with milk.

I have read where others have shared that their band is too tight in the morning to allow them to eat anything, and in that scenario definitely have a shake. Something with good nutritional value is better than nothing.

like Mis and Sojo stated, its okay. (my dr knows i do also).

I drink one every morning because i am not hungry in the a.m. but know that i need (fuel/protein) to sustain me til lunch time. so i make my shake, throw into freezer til its milkshake like and drink on the way to work.

Just saw my NUT today and she said not to do Protein shakes as a meal in the morning. UNLESS I know I won't be eating that meal. She said that I need to fill up with food Proteins in order to fill my stomach and last till my scheduled snack. She likened the shake to a slider because it just goes straight down.

But I will try one one day, I'm just curious how it tastes! :-)

I drink a Protein Shake in the morning. I also freeze it for 1 hour. Turns very thick and then you have to drink it slowly as it thaws.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
