Eating Food One Week After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Did anybody feel the need to eat food only a week after the lapband? I feel hungry, and the liquids don't satisfy me.

Suggestions?

Yes, for the most part we all do, but DON'T! You're still healing and could do potential damage. Just continue to drink Water to keep yourself full. You'll get through it...I promise.

Yes I did! But I resisted. I know it is hard but your band could be damaged if you eat too soon. Be strong!

I felt hungry for the first time at about 6 days post-op. I was on a 2 week full liquid diet after surgery (then advanced 2 weeks at a time). I noticed that cream Soups really helped the hunger, but you have to watch the calories in them. If your Protein shakes are getting bland, try adding a splash of sugar free coffee Syrup to them (like the Torani's carmel or vanilla).

You're starting the trip through "Bandster Hell", the time when your band is either empty or not tight enough, and you have to rely on your willpower to make it through. And you will make it through :)

I'm 6 days post op and very hungry. I can't seem to stomach the shakes any longer and feel miserable. My whole body seems to be calling out for food. This must be Bandster Hell!! How long does it last??!!

I'm six days post op and I'm not hungry at all. Maybe you should call your doctor and see if you can start mushies, like baby food. That might help you. I'm on mushies and I cannot finish a 3.5 ounce container of baby food. I'm loving it! I hope it get better for you.

Wow..that sounds like heaven to me right now. I think I might just call my doc tomorrow. I don't want to be a baby and say I can't take it any more, but I'm feeling so tired and drug out all the time. I need more nutrients!! Thanks.

Is it head hunger, what would you eat to not be so hungry . Think hard this is important........................... My husband who has been hungry real hunger said you would eat a grilled rat a cock roach anything to stay alive. If your wanting pizza and a big Mac could be head hunger. When I first was banded I missed the taste and texture of food. But I drank Protein and Soup chicken broth tasted like Prime rib ... And I made it . I always did something else but sit there and dream about the taste of the food I wanted. Aside form these head games you will really mess your self up if you eat they tell you this for a reason.............

I believe I would eat just about anything right now! If I'm feeling weak and tired all the time I definitely don't think its just in my head. My stomach is growling as I type this. I do understand what your saying though. My mind has drifted off to pizza Hut or McDonald's a few times, but I'm not about to risk my band slipping or causing myself harm over it. I just want to feel better and get rid of this hunger! Thanks!

You will feel hungry your band doesn't provide any restriction yet. Until you starting getting fills you will feel hungry for anything.

I remember going to sleep with my stomach growling! It was terrible but you can make it. I did and so many other people did too. Its not worth risking anything.

"Eat" more of the foods you are allowed. DO NOT EAT MUSHIES OR SOLIDS EARLY. I asked if I could move to mushies 3 days early (post op day 11). The NP said "Absolutely NOT!!"

I was on liquids for 4me wks. After the first wk, i was soooo over them. Everytime I'd go to Albertsons to stock up on Tomato Soup, I would smell the deli fried chicken and almost cave.

Hang in there. It''ll get easier. It really doesn't and I'm glad its ove!!!!

I was starving 4 days after surgery and getting nauseated. I called my nutritionist and she told me to add yogurt (no pieced just plain) or blend a banana in with my shake. She also said I could make very thin (very thin) mashed potatoes using 1% milk. This helped greatly. I didn't have to eat but a few bites to be satisfied, but it kept me from going insane.

I am a month out now and eating soft food, but food and it's great. It doesn't take much to statisfy me, but it still real stuff instead of just shakes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
