I was banded one week ago today. I don't have any Fluid in my band yet. I have been able to eat anything at this time including rice and grits; things I hear is a problem for most everyone. My question is: is this because I don't have any fluid? Or will it always be like this? The only difference I feel is I get full very quickly.

This seems too good to be true. I had very little pain and I have eaten anything I wanted so far but small amounts.

Did your doctor give you a post op diet...most are not allowed regualr food till 2 to 3 weeks post op...the first few weeks are about healing and allowing your band to settle and form scar tissue so it's secure...eating regualr food this early could cause damage this soon..check with your doc about what food you should have..should be mushies or pureed only a week post op.

to my knowledge, liquids only for the first/second week out after surgery. i would advise to check with your dr or review your paperwork to make sure of this. eating too soon could hurt you and we dont want that to happen.

I was put on mushies right away and at day 5 my nutritionist said I could precede slowly onto regular foods but to stay away from tough meats. I was t sure about this so I call my Dr. And he said it was fine if I was having no problem with mushies. I've stuck with softer foods like fish but have done fine.

Yes, you feel that way because you don't have any fills in your band. It will change- until then, welcome to bandster hell! The period of time between surgery/after healing and getting to proper restriction with fills. You will have to diet a little, push yourself away from the table, use your willpower to get results. Or you can still eat what you want and go for your fills, get to restriction, then start losing weight- whichever way. Obviously you'll have quicker results if you watch what you eat from the beginning. You should also start some sort of exercise when the doc clears you. Really the goal of the lap band is to eat what you eat now, just much smaller amounts, so you're doing great!!

i was full liquid for 2 days then mushies. Every dr is different.

Yes, you can probably eat that because you have no fill, but.... wrong choices!

Start out on the right track it makes it easier down the road!

I had restriction from the get go, not to mention scared to death to eat something I shouldn't so I never did experience the "bandster hell"

Best of luck on your journey!

Although it feels like you can eat anything you want, I would strongly advise against it. Even though doctors progress diets at different rates, bottom line is you're still in the "healing" mode. You probably feel like you're able to eat anything at this point bc your band is empty. You'll have to "white-knuckle" it through Bandster Hell.

I had my first fill at 4 weeks post-op and could still potentially eat anything I wanted, but I stuck to the plan. I felt no restriction. I got my second fill on Monday, and WOW, what a difference. I ate a little too quick yesterday (some hummus, then pureed chicken with lite sour cream and salsa - second day after fill "mushies"). I got in about 3 bites of each and was in PAIN! Horrid indigestion, mouth watering, felt like vomiting. After about 10 minutes it passed. I'm finally feeling the presence of my band and am now VERY careful!!

FYI- 90% of new banders CAN eat anything they want, however successful bansters make smart choices and DON'T eat anything they want. Also-I have been in the green zone for several months now and I also CAN eat all foods, I just choose not to because I want my weight to stay off!!! Good luck and don't depend on the band to do ALL the work. Unfortunately that's not how it works for most of us.

I have approx 4.8cc in my band. I have restriction (not elimination of food, but reduction in the amount I can eat and being satisfied and not hungry for 4+ hours) and can eat anything I want. Breads I have to take my time with, which is usually too bothersome so I don't really eat those often. Everyone is different and can eat different foods.

It will get better. I am similar to NWGirl. I only have 1cc (in a 8cc band) but according to my doctor im already in or very near the green zone. If I eat the right foods I stay full for a good stretch, and I can never eat more than 1 cup at a time. I am physically able to eat pretty much anything, so every day I have to choose not to! But trust me it is a lot easier when you're not constantly starving!

When I say I can eat anything I want, I don't mean bad food. I have always eaten healthier foods, just way too much of it. I had 1/4 cup of brown rice with my fish which is allowed o. My diet. I thought I would have problems with the rice but I didn't. The next morning I had 1/2 cup of grits, again on my diet but have heard others have problems with it. My diet is allowed carbs but only whole grains and in small amounts and only once per day.

I am six days post op and I had my follow up today. My doctor told me that I am doing well and that I can move on to the next phases of food as I feel comfortable. I am able to tolerate baby food (pureed) so now I can move forward to soft foods, slowly. From soft I can move on to regular foods as I am comfortable. I can only tolerate tuna and pureed so far today maybe in a few days I am going to try scrambled eggs but I can only eat about 3.5 ounces of food so I'm in no rush to try new foods because I get full really quickly.

Do you have Fluid in your band already. My dr doesn't put any in until after the first.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
