I am post op six days and have a great deal of bruising around port. My doctor said its normal but I wanted to know if anyone went thru this and how long did it last?

Also, I am swollen quite a bit, how long does this last? Other than that I feel great going for my first outside walk today. Any advice on eating at this stage is also welcome. Thank you.

I had bruising and swelling. It's different for everyone. I'm 9 days post op. I'm on liquids. I'm up to being able to have runny porridge. Wobbly jelly. I have been living on home made vegetable Soups which I blend. My doctor has said anything that can go through a straw. Next week I will go on to mushy food.< /p>

I am also 6 days post op and am still bruised and swollen. However, the swelling has gone down significantly. I am not in a whole lot of pain either. I see my doc for first checkup on the 24th.

I have been living on Protein shakes, miso Soup (just the broth), chicken broth, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello and lots of Water.

I am one week post op and still have quite a bit of swelling around the port area. It isn't bruised though. My doctor had me on mushies for a few days and then said I could have anything I could tolerate. All has been great so far. I was very weak for a time but feel better now that I'm getting some calories in.

...i was black around the port area and it was like that for at least a month. it goes away completely eventually. to look at mine now... four months post op, you wouldnt know at all. the swelling?? i looked pregnant for at least four weeks... but with any surgery in the abdo you can expect swellings like this for the first six weeks post op. my tummy is well and truly down now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
