I am 2 wks out from surgery and on soft foods. I am just concerned because I am not following the "rules" it appears most others are.

I am eating way more than 3 times daily. I really have no routine. I am drinking with meals....cause my meals "are" fluids. It just doesn't feel like it is all coming together. I do not feel like I am going to lose any weight?

Did you find after your fill that is when you started the 3 meals daily, not drinking with meals, and I guess just more of a routine? My first fill is in 3 wks, 2 cc's in a 10 cc band. I so hope this helps.

Thanks,

Laura

Relax! You're normal. We all had to go back on a diet about 2 weeks out. You're in "Bandster Hell" and will be till you get a fill that gives you enough restriction.

And you are not supposed to be losing weight just yet. You're still in the healing phase. Lower your expectations.

I know the seminars, nutrtionists and docs gleem over the post surgery phase so we all go into this thinking the band starts working immediately. Not true. This phase really sucks. But, it's necessary. It's like learning to walk. You fall down enough so you finally learn how to keep your balance and avoid those hard falls. This will be a time for you to learn much about yourself, how to eat with the band and what to eat. There is a 3-6 month learning curve and you're just entering lapband 101.

Until there's restriction, it's just another diet...B-52

You are right and it is so great to hear it. I do feel reassured.

I guess I just read on here about so many people losing so much weight pre-op and immediately post-op and it makes me anxious.

I guess I just need to have more patience.

Thanks again.

It might help you to structure your time, sort of like scheduling your meal times, and making a conscious effort to remember to drink as much of the "free" fluids (SF/FF) we're supposed to be getting every day. I still carry a bottle of Water with me most everywhere I go.

Drinking fluids can help with managing hunger; if you don't allow yourself to have anything but your fluids between your meals, it can help with maintaining diet compliance.

Just a tool I've discovered along the way to help me cope with hunger.

And, one additional pearl of wisdom...always remember that we are all individuals. No two of us will have the same experiences or loose weight at the same rate. Try your best to avoid comparing yourself to others...it just sets you up for negative thoughts. You will be successful if you are motivated to be...

Best wishes...

I was told to eat when hungry, and when I'm hungry to eat a meal and not a snack. Also, until you're back onto a full diet, I was told it was okay to drink with meals because the food is going right through anyways.

That's funny. Seems like most of the posts I read are about people who aren't losing and hate their band. OMG..Am I one of those half glass empty guys?

6 months from now you will look back and think how naive you were(if you're anything like me). You'll be losing weight and singing praises to the band god. But there will be some bumps and bruises along the way.

Everyone wants happiness; no one wants pain, but you can't make a rainbow without a little rain. :)

I think I too am learning that lesson now. It doesn't help that people around me are constantly asking how much I've lost either.

Just tell them you stopped weighing. Tell them you are just eating healthy and know in time you will meet your goal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
