Sudden Sharp Pain Around Port Area (2 Weeks Post Op) ??

Recommended Posts

Was showering just a little ago and I suddenly had a sharp pain around the port area. Like small stabbing pain like a stitch was pulling or was getting jabbed with a sharp stick. It happened for about 15 min and was every minute or so. Not a pleasant pain at all :(

I just laid down and it hasn't happened again, but I've stopped moving.

Is this just normal post op stuff? I'm a little over 2 weeks post op. banded July 2.

Thanks

I'm not sure but sometimes (randomly) I get a sharp throbbing pain from my chest area to my left shoulder/arm, it's pretty strange and very painful.

Banded 7/5/2012 :)

Mostly ports are sewn to muscle/flesh they are the slowest bit on your tummy to heal and they are very much stitched into place, u can easily get an odd stitch pull on you as your muscles heal and repair themsleves. If your port area is inflamed red and painful to the touch then u need to seek medical help if not just mention to the doc next time u go if it still bothers u , otherwise its all normal post op niggles and pains :)

hm... well i dont have that sharp pain this morning. so hopefully its gone for good. :-/ the whole area has been a little painful to touch... but more like a bruise. so i'm guessing its just healing. :)thanks for the response. i go to the dr for my first fill in 2 weeks so i'll see how it is by then.

texas bandette... that might be gas still... are you walking a lot and drinking slowly? also try to gas -x. thats the type of pain i had when it was the gases.

It's definitely not gas. I've been walking and walking and all I drink is Water, it's one of those "I know my body, and something is not right" kind of feelings as well.. Im going to see my surgeon about the pains I've been having today..

I don't have the sharp pain that you experienced but feel sore in that area, too. I also try to wear my pants under the port area and wear nightgowns when home. If we feel the same way then I am sure it is part of the healing process.

I am wondering if we will always feel that we have something in our stomached? Does that feeling ever go away?

Please let me know what you find out! I am 9 days post op (7/10) and I've been having wicked pain on my left side under my ribs! It was so bad I went to the ER! They did a CT with contrast and found nothing!! The NP said it could be spasms!

What kind of pain are you experiencing? Also what part of TX are you in? I'm on the Austin area!

Hi all, I was banded 07/09 and went for my check up 07/20 and I asked about the port pain and the nurse said that it's about 2 months before the port soreness goes away :(. My incision area is sort too, but I get the stinging sensation to the right of the incision, so I'm not sure if the port is stitched right under the incision or to the side of it, but it's painful at times. I also found that my pants rubbing against this area is not helping, but at least they are looser, 18 lbs down, woohoo :) Someone on here said they started wearing spanks like a week after their surgery, I have no clue how she does it, I'm all about loose undies and pants/capris. :) I started putting silicone scar strips on my incisions and that helps with the rubbing too. I'm amazed at the difference in wearing these things for 2 days and how the incisions are healing up.

That makes me feel better to hear that it does take about 2 months before the port soreness goes away. I still wear nightgowns to bed and lose clothing around the area but when I have a pair of tighter fitting pants I wear a belly band. I had it when I was pregnant (it is from Motherhood Maternity) and it lies under my stomach and goes all the way to under my breasts. I feel that it takes some of the pressure of the pants cutting into me go away.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
