Hi all,

My name is Betty I got my band feb. 29th of this year. I have yet to get the results I want. I got the 14cc band and I just got my 4th fill today. I am up to 10cc right now. I wonder has anyone had the problem where you feel a little short of breath after fills? The band has helped me shed 40lbs, but I feel that it has not helped me a lot. I am still always hungry and I try to figure out when I am satisfied. My biggest hurdle is the over eating. I am almost at my 5 month mark. Does anyone have any particular signs of fullness? I know all people are different, but it would help to know. Thanks! :)

It took me 4 months before I started to feel any restriction. And then another 2 months before I found the green zone. You are normal. This happens to many of us but you need to push your doctor for more fills till you get enough restriction.

BTW- 40 lbs is awesome. You should be doing the happy dance?

grats on your weight loss so far, i too have a 14 cc band, am at restriction at around 8 cc some of us hit it at a lower fill than others, what does happen tho is that suddenly u find a small fill of maybe 0.25 gives u exactly what u need, when u get closer to your sweet spot / green zone its more a matter of tweaking the fill, small can make a big difference, My fills dont normally kick in till a couple of weeks after they have been done so give it time !sounds like u are bang on target with your weight lost to date tho :)

Thanks! :) I did a happy dance for a bit now I need to lose a bit more to get the encouragement I need. When do you feel exactly when you feel resistance? I feel like something is stuck in my throat.... Is that resistance?

Betty.... 1st off congrats on your 40 lbs! I too was banded in February and have lost 30 so far. I do not think I would've lost it w/o the band.... Do you?

Jenny- definitely not. I had to lose 50lbs in order to even get the lapband. What's your goal weight? How is everything going for you this far? When was your surgery day?

I suppose we're all different but for me, it was a "stuck" feeling. That would be after a few bites of food I would feel pressure in my diaphragm area that could be mildly painful. Usually there would be slime(thick saliva) associated with a bad stuck episode. I also feel a lump in my lower throat or the bottom of my esophogus. This feeling should go away in 10-30 minutes. I can't eat or drink anymore until the pouch massages the food through the band.

You should know that restriction is a good thing but it's not the real goal. The real goal is satiety with less food. Restriction is simply a red flag that we have eaten too much or to slow down. Restriction is a signal and when you learn how to use it, you can become satisfied with less food. Satiety is the goal.

I was banded Feb 7th and just now feel I am in the zone. As for hunger, I still feel it. I have to ask myself, is this real or is it head hunger? My worst time is at night & it's usually head hunger when I'm watching TV. When this happens I've been getting on my exercise bike instead of heading to the kitchen...works most of the time.

That's me though & everyone is different.

Betty... My goal weight is 120 lbs. I have about 20 more to go:)

I have had 3 fills (total 7CC) and I am satisfied w/about 1-1/2 cups food. I get minor stuck episodes most often in the morning and lunchtime. In the evenings I find I could eat ANYTHING so I must be careful. Other than that I absolutely love my little device!

What is your goal? What does a day of eating look like for you?

Jenny- my goal weight is 175 I started this journey at 410 and I am currently at 340. I have 10cc as of yesterday in my band. I never really felt restriction until now. I can't even finish my Protein Shake I am still working on it from this morning I have had 8oz total today I think. I am getting a lot of conflicting information from my surgeon and my trainer so they settled on something which was 3 small meals and I can snack but right now I had a 1/4 of an avocado for lunch I feel comfortable right now so I am stopping, but some of my coworkers brought cake and sandwiches, but it makes my mouth Water but I'm not hungry. There's I guess the head hunger. What was your initial weight and how much have you lost total?

I agree with too much fun, I begin to feel a pressure feeling in my neck and chest like I need to burp, or I get hiccups from diaphragm irritation. It is not painful but if I continue to eat after this 'soft sign' then I will experience painful pressure, inability to swallow and PB or slimy mucus production. I prefer to avoid this. Obviously slider foods and well chewed small bites pass much more easily.

Like TMF said restriction is just a tool or signal, if used incorrectly or not heeded you can eat around it. The purpose is to help us learn to distinguish between actual hunger and head hunger or habit; learn what a realistic amount to eat is (eat like a skinny person); learn to take our time and eat small bites chewed well, and eat appropriate foods, in appropropriate amounts, at appropriate times. You will still need to do some work your self regarding discipline, motivation, and compliance. Look at this time as time to learn proper nutrition, eating, and exercise habits with the assistance of the band and the reward of weight loss along the way.

You have had great results so things are going well don't be discouraged just keep up the good work. this community is a good resurce as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
