Each person is different.

we were advised not to eat sushi because of the rice but there are some great ideas online of how to make the rice without using rice. Have not tried them myself but plan to.

I have had fried oysters I know fried is bad ;) but had not problem eatting them.

You probably don't have restriction at this point anyways, if you've just been banded. You probably won't have a problem, just watch portions- you'll be in bandster hell, where you feel like you can eat just like you did before surgery.

I'm able to eat sushi. I did have one issue when I didn't chew the seaweed enough and it got stuck. I say try and see. Just remember small bites and chew. Enjoy!

I eat sushi all the time. Love it! I can't eat very many pieces though. So I stick to a roll that is all raw fish and wrapped in cucumber. I also drink hot tea beforehand, or have miso Soup. Helps loosen up the band a bit.

If you haven't had a fill... you should be fine. Enjoy!!! I am still on liquids/purée. I would love some right now. Lol.

I am hoping sushi will work for me, too. Nervous about how I will react to rice post-band. Although, keep in mind that if you like the raw fish (I do) that sashimi should be fine, as well as miso Soup. Once you've established that you're okay with rice, you might start with a few pieces of nigiri. (pieces of fish on top of small rice balls)

Omg...I love sushi and thought I'd be giving it up forever! I've been too nervous to try it even though I dont have any restriction. Of course the rice has caused me anxiety, but the seaweed especially. Have you found you do better with soy wrappers? And how do you take small bites of sushi?? LoL

As far as taking small bites, my thought is ask for a sharp knife? With rolls, set them on their edge and simply slice it into thinner 'disks.' (Actually if you are at the bar and the chef is friendly, he might be willing to slice the roll more thinly to begin with.) With nigiri, chop it into bite-sized portions. Might be a little fiddly, but easier than trying to bite off a piece.

If you're nervous about asking for a knife, slip one into your purse.

Seaweed you are probably going to have to chew the heck out of. Alternatively, go with something that is wrapped in rice and rolled in fish roe. I can't imagine the small roe causing a problem?

No problem with sushi per se, but there some rolls that have cucumber in them, and oh boy do these get stuck! In fact, I have one stuck right now. I am usually pretty good at asking for avocado instead of cucumbers, but tonight I didn't notice it, and there was some in one of the rolls. One bite of that, and it made me stop dead in my tracks. Excused myself to the bathroom, nothing but pain. Luckily, I had eaten a bunch of sashimi, so it didn't look like I was sick to my friend. I just returned from the bathroom and said that I was full, and got the rest to go.

Now I'm home an hour later, and there's just no coaxing that darned piece of cucumber! Trying for some hot chamomille tea to see if it will work.

So... experiment and find out what works for you. But, I would strongly recommend you stay clear of cucumbers, and ask for another substitution.

I eat sushi about once every could of months...

It works fine, although I have to eat it slowly (it's normal in Japan to eat a piece whole... that's not going to happen now, no matter how much I chew).

But as long as I take it slowly, it's not a problem.

I used to be able to eat rice and then out of the blue it got stuck. One if the worst stuck episodes I've ever had! Had to get an unfill for it to pass. It was awful. Now I'm not even tempted!

Before my first fill I could eat sushi, I just ate about half of the rice. And I could not eat other rice that I made at home. It was just bout the only thing I would get stuck on pre fill, after about the third time getting stuck I gave it up!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
