First Band Fill, What Can I Expect?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! Today I am having my first fill and I was wondering what can I expect? Any pain or will I feel like nothing is going on... Pretty much I want to know if, everytime I get a band fill, does my life remain normal other than the fact I will consume less food? It is a very important and busy week for me and I dont want to waste it feeling sick, but then again it took forever to get an appointment for this so I cannot re-schedule, plus Im tired of being in bandsters hell! I havent dropped or felt any visible difference. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I personally didn't feel any pain with fill. My doctor doesn't numb when they do it. I unfortunately have this issue with passing out after because of the vagas nerve. I have more restriction now and have to be super careful with what I eat.

A fill for me is about a 10 minute appointment and then back to life as normal besides the 2 days after in liquids. I just had my 4th fill and now really having to just be more aware of eating slower and not eatin things such as bread as it dosent go down well.

Once you get the first one, you will be able to relax and know that it is a simple process :)

I just got home from my very first fill. Very simple process and I felt no pain with the needle. He put in 2 cc's and I will be on full liquids for 24 hours and then I have to be careful what I eat until I figure what works well and what does not. I'm just taking it slow and still determining how much restriction this fill will give me. I see the dr. again on 8/16. I wish you well.

Please remember a lot of people feel very little difference with a first fill and often for several fills after this. This is entirely normal, dont think it hasnt worked or something is wrong or the band isnt going to work. Most of us didnt start to feel any restriction till at least fill 3 or 4 some had to wait till fill 5 or 6, the number of fills only reflects the caution a fill doctor will use some will only put in around 1 cc of Fluid, some will be more agressive. Everyone is different and all fills are different so just be patient and u do eventually get there sometimes sooner than u think sometimes longer ..

Good luck to all you firrst fillers :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
