Hey all! I'm scheduled to be banded 7/27 in Tijuana by Dr. Corvala at Hospital Angeles.

I live in NYC, do any of you have any recommendations on Dr.'s or clinics that would be able to do my fills and provide me with follow-up care if it becomes necessary?

The first place I will be looking into will be NYU Langone, but I'd like choices if there's anywhere else you might know of.

Thanks!

Be sure to find a local surgeon to handle your fills and care before you go to Tijuana. This is crucial because the majority of US surgeons won't touch a patient who was banded in Mexico, and because of this many come home after surgery with nowhere to turn to help.

So, start checking into local surgeons now to see if any will treat and fill you. It's so important you do this before you have surgery.

Best wishes.

I hope you understand that your success with the band will DEPEND on your after care. If you cannot get fills the band will be almost useless. I hate to see people on here who are banded in Mexico and get so frustrated with the band "not working" for them. Please make certain you CAN find a doctor for aftercare BEFORE putting so much on the line.

I third what the others said. Congrats on your decision though! Maybe the clinic doing yours will have good ideas about where to go in the States for fills, etc.?

Thanks for the responses everybody. Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear I have already spoken to NYU Langone here in NYC, but I was looking for alternative if anybody else had any other places that they knew about.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
