Hi All,

I am not banded yet (July 25th). I would love to hear from other bandsters how they handle eatting seafood. Can you? Is it difficult to swallow? Does it get stuck? Some of my favortie seafoods I enjoy are crab, scallops, lobster, and filet of sole. Occasionally I will eat shrimp, but its not my fav.

Thanks,

-Patty

I LOVE seafood, have not had any problems- I love shrimp, fish, lobster, etc- just do take small bites. It's like everything, you'll have to see after each fill. But I would HATE to live without seafood, so I'll find a way to eat it (short of pureeing it, LOL).

I love fish and eat it a lot. Love shrimp boiled doesn't go down sometimes . Tried French Fried lobster off my husbands plate on vacation MAJOR STUCK 5 trips to the bathroom to remove it. Sweetie I will puree anything in the Magic Bullet including steak if I am hungry enough for it doesn't look pretty but taste just fine. Sometimes small bites just don't work on steak. And you would be surprise how little you can eat of that 3 oz portion takes me a long time.. Everyone is different. I love my saefood....Sushi included.

I have been banded almost 6 months and I eat all types of seafood multiple times a week. Never had a problem. But it may be different for you. I would try and see....small bites and chew, chew, chew. :)

I had baked catfish last night for dinner and it was DELIGHTFUL! I've also had shrimp. No problems.

Haven't had a fill yet but had the same question, seafood is sooo healthy for the most part (good oils & protein) I thought it would be a good excuse to treat myself to seafood more often when the time comes

No seafood problems. One word of caution however is keeping it low fat. Even Baked with a cracker crumbs is going to up the calories. If you order it out ask them to make it with as little fat as possible. Some places really destroy your good intentions but adding ridiculous amounts of butter.

Sometimes tuna salad is hard for me to get down. I guess it's because there is really nothing to chew. I have to drink something to get it to go down. IDK, I still eat it though. It's easy for me to transport with my job as I have to take at least 8 meals with me when I go to work.

Eating shrimp right now! Lol. Only seafood I've had an issue with is tuna. I assume bc i cut back on the mayo so it's dryish. For me, seafood is 100% easier than chicken. I hate wet chicken (makes me gag with the popping when you chew.. *shivers*) so i eat it often.

Jeff, do you put anything in your tuna salad, like dressing or lite mayo to help with the tuna going down. I love Tuna fish, I eat it 3 days a week or sometimes more. It is loaded with Protein (1 can = 26 grams)

This is good to hear JennyBee.

Patty, I use light olive oil mayo in my tuna, as well as boiled egg and pickle relish.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
