I am in the pre-op stage. I just revelry finished all the testing and I'm scheduled for survey September 6th. I have shared my getting banded with everyone. Today a coworker came up to me and said "You look great your losing weight" and I thanked her. I haven't seen her in a while so I told her that I was getting banded. She gave me the most horrid look and pretty much told me I am going to die. Why can't people just be happy for us ? This is my life I don't need someone telling me all the horror stories. I pretty much told her to F**k off As nicely as I could.

I only told a few choice people and I honestly don't care what anyone else thinks. I did this for me.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions - unfortuantely, almost everyone likes to share theirs :) Most of the time, their "horror stories" come from hear-say or assumptions, not real life personal experience. You said it right though - this is your life. Nobody else has to live in your skin. Do what you feel is right and let everyone else worry about themselves.

The word about mine is slowly getting out. I have several friends who know, but I don't tell them outright. They have asked what is going on and I direct them to my blog where I wrote about my debate on telling friends or not and that I didn't want to have to throat punch anyone who was negative. So...they can see what I am doing, think their own thoughts and make an educated decision on whether to tell me if they think it is a bad idea. Lucky for them, they've all been supportive.

i told my friends at work (as i had to take time off and answer a gazillion questions) and with me being manager for nationwide software company, they had to know--- bout it on my side. (not to mention my friends on the forum here).

hub told his friends and when i asked why?? he said because i am proud of you.

nuff said

Send your coworker and e-mail with a link that explains the procedure. So many people are not educated about WLS. Maybe instead of us all getting mad educate someone. You don't need their approval but how nice to educate them.

I only shared with a select few also. I really don't care about others opinion because I am doing what's best for ME

Yay for ignorant folks. Woo hoo for you in being nice. Not everyone is going to understand why you are going through this. The ones that matter care and will be there to support you and get you through it. My friends and some of my family know that I've done this and most of my friends are encouraging and supportive. If you have to answer for your actions, then you don't need them.

You'll get through this with the help of the site, friends, and your own sheer will. You will make it through this.

I only told a few family members. Just recently I put it on my Facebook page because it seems everyone has such a horrible opinion on be banded. Everyone thinks it's the easy way out. For what reason I don't know, I think this is a pretty hard choice because you have to work hard. I got a few responses back but other then that I don't care what anyone thinks or says.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
