fericito 138 Posted July 16, 2012 Somebody help me figure this out. I was a huge drinker with my meals and I'm on to mushies and they told me to start working on it before I get to solids. I drink an hour or so before and I'm counting down the minutes after to be able to drink. It's probably all in my head but I feel like I'm dying of thirst until I can drink. How do I do this and get used to it? I am so wanting to drink all the time and would rather drink than eat lol which is weird I know. HELP?

I'm almost 5 weeks post op and I've gotten used to it now. Yes there are times that I'm thirsty after eating but I try to focus on other things. One thing you might try and I don't do this very often as I don't want to recommend it but put a piece of ice in your mouth and then spit it out just to wet your mouth. In my seminar I was told I could drink right up to my meal then I had to wait an hour after so that is what I've been doing. Good luck.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted July 16, 2012 My surgeon said I can drink right up until I start eating. No drinking while eating, then I can drink again 30 minutes after. It took some getting used to but now it's second nature. If I couldn't drink an hour before eating too, I wouldn't be able to do it. That would be hard. 2 2muchfun and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
joannedt 83 Posted July 16, 2012 I think you need to visualize. Think of your small pouch being nice and full but then you drink something and wash it all away. Then you're hungry again. The food needs to sit there for a while so you feel full. Helps me.

I agree, one hour prior to eating is just way too long and unnecessary. Water just flows through the band and is out of the stomach in minutes. tmf 2 ☠carolinagirl☠ and DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! reacted to this

Kate rules 43 Posted July 16, 2012 I drink up until meal arrives but nothing after that for at least 30 minutes or I will puke. Kind of like a shock collar. If you do it a few times you figure out it just is not pleasant. At least that is how it works for me.
