Hello I'm Lupe and I think i've hit rock bottom. I had surgery 6/19, I had lost 18 lbs.... But I checked my weight tonight and I went up 3lbs. I am so disappointed. I hate feeling like this, o have to go back to work soon and everyone found out about me getting this done! I even have received text from friends at work saying they can't wait to see me, like when I come back to work I'll be thin! I have until the 25th to lose weight, but I feel so much pressure. I have a friend that had it done in November and lost 101lbs! So do they think I will be like her! Plus I have to move to a smaller place to save $. I know I should suck it up and get over myself, I know there are worst things happening to others and I should thank the Lord. I just need some advice and some cheering up!

Hay Lupe my name is lissa and I just got banded 3 days ago! When we do this surgey we do it for ourselves so regardless of what others except or think its not there business. You have to much to worry about then making sure you lose enough to satisfy your coworkers. Everyone has different body types and as long as your doing the best you can they who cares if you lose a pound a month your doing it for yourself. Best of luck with everything and just remember its your life forget what others have to say!

Firstly Lupe to weigh yourself of a night is asking for trouble :) weigh yourself in the mornings as soon as u get up after u been to the bathroom then if want to record it each week u can just do it the same time and day each week, i weigh daily but that a personal decision. I can easily be 3lbs heavier if i weigh of an evening , but i only make note of mornings.

You are still healing and u arent that long post op, this was and is no fast weight loss, most people wont begin to feel restriction from the band till they have a good few fills done, and many dont start losing much weight till then, how many years did it take u to get the weight u were, its not going to come off overnight, some people rely on willpower till the fills kick in so if u want to drop the weight faster then it will be back to good old dieting and exercising till u get near your green zone/sweetspot. gonna be tough....being newly banded like you are, you have not hit rock bottom. you are healing. please do not think that way.

comparing yourself to others will be your downfall. you and i can be that person who lost 100lbs. we will lose at our own pace. if you think that way, you will not be happy. also, dont get into the habit of weighing each time you pee or poop. your weight goes up and down all day long. its not accurate. weigh yourseld one day a week and stick to it.

the band is only a tool to make you feel/eat less. its up to you to be a mental warrior and take care of yourself. you can do this. look at what you did to be able to get ths surgery. you need to start thinking that way again.

you can do this.

The first 6 weeks you aren't expected to loose much weight..your body is still healing..please don't let others pressure you into losing weight..it is your personal journey and you can't compare it to anyone else..if people have the balls to ask why you haven't lost tell them about the first 6 weeks..

Oh hon, don't get discouraged! Have you had a fill yet? If not, that's why your weight may go up a little before it starts going down. Don't compare yourself to your friend who hasn't lost weight; she obviously hasn't put in the work. And that's what many of us (myself included) don't realize at the beginning - you are still require to do the majority of the work here. You have to eat right for the band to work. So, just try to stick to your band rules for eating, if you have a little slip up don't beat yourself up, just get right back to it!

Thanks to all, and no I haven't had a fill. I have no restriction at all. I get a fill on the 8/8. I know it's a tool....but I just expect better of my self. hearing it from others somehow makes it more believable. Does that make sense?

Something as simple as my monthly cycle cans add 8-10 ponds to my weigh in. You weigh in the morning after potty, skip it during Pms/cycle times and take measurements once a month.

You lost 18 lbs WITHOUT your first fill, you're doing EXCELLENT! Don't compare yourself to your co-worker or anyone else. Everyone is different, I'm do to be banded on August 23rd and I'm not expecting much weight loss. I know my body it's stubborn as a mule but after about 2 months it will have no choice! LOL

Between my working out, running and the band it'll have no choice but to behave BYE BYE fat cells! So excited!!

I understand the feeling of rock bottom, i just had my band placed 7/2 and have not had a fill yet. i have been on a roller coaster of emotions and losing my emotional friend food has made things even crazier. try to let your body and mind heal some before you are hard on yourself

Eighteen pounds is incredible!!!! Especially so soon in the game!

You can't compare yourself to others, because you're just going to set yourself up for disapointment. You aren't anyone else, so you can't compare your results and successes and failures with any one else.

Also, this whole weight loss surgery journey is about YOU and no one else. You did this for you, to be happier and healthier. Not to "be skinny and impress your co-workers!"

This isn't a magical process where you get the surgery one day and a week later you've got the body of your dreams. It's gonna take hard work, determination, and laughter and tears. Be gentle with yourself and learn to love the ride. You'll have ups and you'll have downs, but don't get discouraged, we all have that.

Take your measurements on a monthly basis and pictures of your face and body once a month. Sometimes pounds don't come off but inches do. Also, when you take pictures to track your progress when you get discouraged you can actually look and see your progress and how far you've come.

Keep you're chin up and be nice with yourself! You are going to be a great successed just keep a PMA (Positive Mental Attitude!)

Hey Lupe!! My advise is to throw the scale away. The scale is the devil and will sabitoge all the hard work you have done. Try to concentrate on how you feel, look and how your clothes are fitting. One or two things would happen to me. I'd be on a real high feeling great, clothes are getting looser. Then I would hop on the scale. If that scale didn't read what I wanted to see. I looked at it as failure and would go eat. Save weighing in at doctors office. My band date is 7/20/12. I haven't owned scales in 8 years.

Also, when I had a scale and saw it going up up up.....It didn't make me go on a diet either. we know what are bodies are doing don't need a scale to tell us that.

never get on the scale during the evening time unless you are being made to, LOL

best time to weigh yourself is first thing in the morning, of course after you have gone to the bathroom and rid of the Fluid from sleeping all night. I can gain up to 4 pounds from morning to evening in a flash!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
