HI y'all, I'm getting banded on Wednesday, and I thought of a question I forgot to ask my surgeon. The cord that goes from band to port, where is that placed? Does it just "hang out" in your body? Have u heard of it interfering with other organs? Thanks peeps :)

The port is sutured to the outside of your abdominal wall. The tubing is trimmed to reach. I've never heard of the tubing interfering with other organs. Good luck on Wednesday!

It's normally tucked behind the organs. Mine had actually popped out and was in front and I could see it bulging through my skin. I had a revision surgery 4 months after the initial surgery and recovery was hell. It was put back in place and mesh was installed to prevent it from happening again.

I know of two people who had trouble with the tubing because to a large degree it is free in there, and can migrate. Its trimmed to the appropriate length, but one I know of had the tubing touching/rubbing her diaphragm after a couple of years and had to have a small op to have it shortened, it was causing her alarming pain. That was someone on here five or six years ago.

Another friend in real life has had the same problem. Its easily fixed, but it is surgical unfortunately. But its obviously not a common occurrence at all.

Good luck on your banding I am a week post op and doing great. go tomorrow to get staples out then find out witch cut is my port. I have an idea 3 out of 5 I don't feel so I am betting one of the sensitive ones is my port since its attached to the mucle.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
