Am I Getting Enough Calories!?

Recommended Posts

Hey all I decided to track my calories yesterday and it's the most I've eaten since being banded on Wednesday.

What I ate: 9 oz of Protein Drink, 2 oz of squash Soup, three sugar free Popsicles, and 3 oz of v8 veggie juice. This was all through out the day and with Vitamins but only comes out to 320 calories.

Is this ok until I can get more down? Should I get an unflavored Protein Powder to put in soup? Am I freaking out for no reason? :)

at this point the only thing you need to do is heal. try to drink as much as you can but, don't worry about it. keep drinking Water, sips all the time.

I remember thinking how weird it was to eat so little after surgery but time will change all of this.

your body just experienced a major surgery. it needs a few weeks of recovery. you will start to concentrate on weight loss later. keep coming to this site, read as much as you can, you will learn from others. good luck and welcome, this is the right place to be!

It is extremely low, but you're only a couple days post op too. A lot of people struggle to get any calories right after surgery, As the swelling in your stomach goes down, you will slowly regain your appetite. In the meantime, just be sure to drink lots of Water and stay well hydrated.

Best wishes!

I didn't have much of an appetite for a couple of days post op, but that slowly changed :) But right now your body is healing and remember to remain hydrated as they all have said earlier. Wishing you much success on your banded journey.

You are fine you and you are doing great and believe your tummy is swollen on the inside. Drink drink just carry a bottle with you all the time , And Thank the LORD you are not hungry , Take that weight loss when it comes, Think about people in Concentration Camps who lived for years on Water Soup and bread. I had enough fat on me to keep several people nourished. Enjoy this while it last and hope it last forever. Best of Luck yo you...

Thanks all for your input. I'm trying to get as much Protein as possible which I'm finding challenging. It takes me all morning to get through a Protein Shake and by the time I feel like putting more in me I really am not into having another protein shake :) Trying to be easy on myself because I've only been banded less than a week. Staying well hydrated so that's good. I've lost eleven pounds since surgery already which is awesome, but I'm having a hard time belieiving it's real.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
