Anyone who is struggling with the Protein Shakes needs to order the chicken Soup flavor from unjury.com they saved me!! I was banded 7/6 and was starving after 3 days and started mixing my Protein Shake with soup and I'm not starving anymore! I mix them them as directed and then add them to soup and it's actually good, not just tolerable!! I've mixed with cream of chicken, tomatoe and cream of potatoe and they have all been good and again I'm not starving anymore!!

I had the HMR shakes and they were very good. I was able to subsitute a shake for 2oz. lean protien a day and on top of that either 4 cups raw veggies or 2 cups cooked veggies. I had the vanilla and chocolate shakes, no strawberry in the lot but they did have chicken Soup, I just couldnt drink it, it made me gag. With the shakes thou I was able to add sugar free Jello pudding onto them, just a small amount, and it changed the flavor. banana cream and cheesecake were my favorite along with the orange. I lost about 16lbs on the shakes and was uber excited about it.

Those combinations sound very good!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been told to use Optifast. Apparently that brand is one of the few that has complete nutritional content. Got to admit tho - they are MUCH higher in carbs than my normal shake .. And much lower in Protein. Weird.

my doctor's office provided the shakes so I had no out of pocket expense for that, which I was greatful because friends who had the lapband said the shakes were getting pricey. I heard that there are a lot of options out there which is fantastic.

I LOVE unjury. I didn't think to mix the prepared broth into other Soup, that's a great idea!! I'll do that next fill.

I love the Unjury vanilla with 1 c skim milk, 1 Tbsp sugar free pistachio pudding mix and a little ice.

Or 1 scoop vanilla, 1 c trop 50 orange juice, 5-6 frozen strawberries and 1/2 c ice. Yum!

Also just a scoop of chocolate splendor, 1 c skim milk and some ice- good and cold chocolate milk!!

Thanks Libralatin, I have had a look at the link. The Optifast 900 is similar, but not exactly the same as the one I am using. Your one has 22.5g of Protein per service and 16.8g Carbs. The Optifast I am using has 17.5g Protein and 22.5g Carbs. It just seems so bizarre to me to be using a Protein Powder that has more carbs than protein. My regular protein powder has 32.9g Protein and 0.6g carbs. I've been told there is something in it to reduce the size of the liver - but I still can't understand the carb count.

Glad to know Optifast is working for you. :) All the best on your journey.

Kiwi : )

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
