Can the hospital prevent me from driving myself home?

Do you have tow coverage on your car? Call your insurance company and tell them your car quit running (you dont have to tell them it quit when you turned it off) and you want it towed to your house. Easy peasy. *grins* Hey, I'd do it!

Where is your surgery, I want to make sure I'm not out there driving! :biggrin1: Seriously, though, I'm sure you'll figure it out. I hope everything is uneventful and you recover well.

Take the minimal things with you (no jewelry, taxi money, etc.).

Ask a nurse to watch it for you, while in surgery. Then, after surgery it can be brought into your room.

Good luck. Shawn

I absolutely would NOT drive or plan on driving. I didn't drive for 2 weeks after surgery (dr.'s instructions) and was glad I didn't. Don't you have a friend who can help out?

You know...I'm sorta getting the feeling you guys think driving myself might be a bad thing...?

:lalala:

Nah, I'm kidding. Point taken.

Ya. Everyone's right. I know for me, I had a very difficult time sitting up - I had to lean back in the car and the bumpyness was pretty painful.

Good luck in finding someone to take you. You're gonna do the right thing, right??????

Take care and "Welcome to Bandland!",

:) :) :) :yell: :) :) :dizzy: :loco:  :faint2: :welldone: :lovechoc: :) :dead :rip:

I haven't used many smilies lately. I went through all of them looking for one that said "you are being an idiot" in a nice way. This is the best I could find. Take your time, (deep breath) reflect, (deep breath) if you get in an accident THATS when they steal your stuff...

And in case I forgot to say it...

just look at the smilies!

That band in your belly cost more than my car. So, I say, protect the band. More than that, your life is worth WAY more than that stupid car. Wait, what kind of car do you have?

I had been in the hospital over 2 weeks when I was released. I was ABLE to drive as long as I put a pillow between me and the seatbelt. The fact is that they just don't let you get in a car and drive yourself, but I was given permission to drive (although not great distances), and seeings as I had only been taking aspirin for my heart for the last few days I was in no way impaired. Where I live it is desert...everything is straight...no curves...no view, (unless you count sagebrush) and I drove home very slowly. I had no problems, but I would not drive home the day after a surgery. You are still going to be very sore and on medication. The advise given by others is excellent. In my case I had stayed an extra 3 days for physical therapy before I went home, which was on a completely different floor. I had just moved into a new home in a brand new subdivision before my surgery, knew no one there, and my best friend had died of brain cancer the mo. before, so I truly was stuck to get my car home. I would have had to go back for it anyway, and I didn't feel leaving it there was safe. I worried all the time I was in the hospital about it....anyway...yes...take a cab, have a friend pick you up....take the advise of everyone on here. It isn't the same set of circumstances as mine were.

If nothing else, there are local churches, community services, etc who have people who help with just this kind of thing all the time.. It's easy to be tempted and we all are often guilty of trying to be TOO self-reliant, but this is one time it's just not a smart thing to do, for you, your band or others on the road... Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
