Had My First "stuck" Feeling Tonight

Recommended Posts

OMG what a doosy it was. I ate a piece of chicken, small bite or so I thought but it got stuck. I was miserable for an hr and half. Just as I had read on here, salivating a lot, spitting up frothy mess and slimy like egg white mess, yuck!!! Finally towards the end I ended up getting sick and throwing up what was stuck and I felt better. It was so intense it made my nose bleed. i think I'm done with chicken!!!

I would'nt give up on chicken. How big was the bite? How well did you chew it? How dry was the chicken? Do you have any chewable papaya pills? They aid digestion. If you have a stuck episode chew several of them which may help digest/move the food through the pouch.

..this is a downside of the band .. im finding that some days i can eat chicken, pork, etc... and other days i just cant. i just had a session over a small piece of bacon, which normally i have no issues with. im concluding that my band is a tad tighter today than normal. i think i can safetly say that my band is actually tighter some days then others. With this sort of variance, i never really know how im going to be.( i had an upset yesterday when a dear friend of mine died... from cancer). Im sure this affected the band.

im not letting it stop me though. a very small bite, chew much, and see what happens. its not a nice experience, to be sure. i hope you dont have any more.

Happy dance time. You officially have restriction.

It may not be perfect yet but it gives you something to work with and tweak.

First and foremost to Judy, I'm sorry for your loss of your friend.

Yes the happy dance of restriction. I got 4ccs in my band this past week and I'm 4 weeks post op. Thank you for the suggestion of papaya dissovable pills, I will get them after church Sunday since I am packing to move tomorrow all day. Eating light tomorrow...lol. looking back at it, maybe i didn't chew chew chew or ate a too big of bite I don't know, all I know it got stuck. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Welcome to the club!! LOL...I find I have 'tight days' too, and tend to eat very light a couple of days after (smoothies, yogurt, Protein shakes)...chicken has never given me a problem...I don't do well with any red meat, and ground anything is a no go these days...

Well, I probably should not write this, because some divine band intervention may ensue...but the only thing to date I ever got stuck was a small pill which was just after I began to take whole pills again after surgery. It created an intense burning sensation for about 15 minutes, and then passed. I had to relearn how to take pills, and still did not know who much Water I could tolerate swallowing with a pill, and had too little water.

I am able to tolerate all meats I have tried thus far...everything from ground meats, all poultry, flaky fish, to sliced pork and lamb. I am waiting as I have been advised to do for an entire year post op before attempting to eat steak or prime rib.

I believe that this is because I am "mindful" while I eat...I make a conscious effort to have small bites and chew every bite thoroughly. I try to avoid distractions during meals, and allow myself ample time to have a meal without rushing. I know that this is not always possible for many people, but if it helps with avoiding stuck episodes, it would be worth it to me to stay stuck free...IMHO.

Best wishes...

i wish i could say that i dont get stuck episodes. i think the main reason for my episodes, apart from not chewing enough, is that im distracted.. either by other people or t.v. Only time will teach me how to instinctively know what to do with each mouthful. i have noticed though that 99 percent of the time im counting automatically now before i swallow so thats a good start. its the concentration bit that gets to me. lol. anyone else have this problem?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
