canderson04 17 Posted July 14, 2012 I had surgery July 11 and I am having a hard time drinking enough liquids and eating more than 1/4 cup of food. I do not have anything in my band but also had a hernia repair. My doctor said that this normal but did not say what to other than drink slow and eat slow. When I drink and eat I get a funny feeling in my chest is I stop almost feel like intergestion. I not even sure how many calories I should be eating a day. Please advise. sylviau 125 Posted July 14, 2012 The first few days was hard to get enough to drink. My dr had me do one once of liquid (including shake) every 15 min. That worked great. I was on liquids for 2 weeks tho. If ur not getting enough. Try Gatorade G2...that will help keep u hydrated at least.

Sojourner 2,446 Posted July 14, 2012 It sounds like it is too soon for you to be eating anything...like many others, I was on liquids for 2 entire weeks post op, then on mushies for an additional week. If it is painful to swallow, you need to get in contact with your surgeon's office asap and let them know what is going on. You should have been given a prescription for a pain medication pre op; take some according to directions. It is not normal to have pain with swallowing. I would return to a liquid only diet and give everything a bit longer to heal. After a fill, I have to return to a liquid diet for 2 days, then soft foods for 1 day. I hope you feel better fast! judych 225 Posted July 14, 2012 I am on mushy foods now. I only had to do liquids for 24 hrs i think that as long as you keep hydrated and drink your Protein drinks... by the way, are you on any Vitamins? it will resolve itself. concentrate on your liquids mostly.
