Thinking I May Be In The Zone But Fighting Mind Hunger!

Recommended Posts

I first posted this on springers group but wanted to share it with more so posting here. I had my 2nd fill on July 6, So been over a week ago. Since then i have had some stuck episodes and when i have to much it has to come back up (sorry for description) This morning I got to work had had breakfest at home (my fav special K cerieal) Came to work they had chocolate donoughts I cut one in half eat it then took a drink of coffee and up the coffee came. After that i felt fine. Heres the thing i am schedualed for another fill on Aug 16 but i am not having any real hunger. I am eating small amounts and I am happy with that. The thing i am having issues with is mind hunger. Seeing something that i know i shouldnt eat (doughnut, cookie) and not being hungery but taking it anyway cause i want it. I know a fill wont change this it has to come from me. I am getting better before surgery I sure wouldnt done 1/2 a doughnut. I am thinking if nothing change I wont get a fill in Aug. I feel i maybe in the zone. I mean i seldom feel hunger (well except for the dang mind thing and that i know is my demon of food addiction. What do you all think? Is anyone else struggling with Mind Hunger where your not hungry but somethign LOOKS to good to pass up?

I have the same problems! Im rarely hungry but it's a constant battle of mind hunger! Wanting it because it's their and it looks soooo good! I'm horrrrible at controlling myself! I'll eat just to eat and then I kick myself everytime! Im pretty sure I'm in the green zone because I'm rarely ever hungry but I need to work on my head! I'm home all day with my 3 young kids 1,4, and 5 yr old an they are constantly eating and it always looks so good! Need to start finding something productive to do during the day to keep me busy! July 20 will be my 1 year since I've been banded and I'm still fighting head hunger :/ good luck!

I have been banded for 6 months and still struggle with what I call head hunger daily. I am constantly asking myself "Are you physically hungry or head hungry?" The band dramatically helps the physical hunger, the head hunger I know I'm on my own with. I think a lot of us struggle with this.

You're already one step ahead for realizing it, though. So many don't. The fact you are able to listen to your body and recognize the difference between physical hunger and head hunger is huge, too. I know it feels like you're struggling right now, but truth is, you're doing excellent and definitely in tune with not only your body but your mind as well.

Just keep asking yourself if it's head hunger or physical hunger, and if it's head hunger, don't eat. Drink Water, or your calorie free drink of choice (besides soda, no carbonation!). If it's really bad and you HAVE to have something, try something super low calorie. I go for sliced cucumbers with a little salt or a 1/4 cup of 1% low fat cottage cheese.

Hang in there, you're doing great :)

Strangely enough after my third fill my appetite, head hunger have fallen off the map completely...mind you I am not complaining and I hope it continues. As for the stuck episodes make sure you are chewing everything up really fine. I am still struggling with that but I also discovered I have more of a problem when I am in a hurry or multitasking such as working, watching tv. I have started to eat in the dining room away from the t.v. and now at work I eat in the Cafe as opposed to at my desk where work will distract me.

Like Mis73 said you have to have that internal conversation with yourself and analyze whether or not you are truly hungry. Up until this last fill I would do that all the time. I wish everyone could experience what I have it is amazing. Been overweight all my life and this feeling is strange but welcoming...

Have to remember we been shoving food in our faces and eating a certain way for a very, very long time. New habits take time to hone.

Good Luck!!

I've had the same issue the past year. I've been in the "zone" but couldn't not seem to kick my high calorie drinks, I just love starbucks.

I've found some motivation again recently and have been counting calories allowing myself to have 1500 per day with a 2 mile walk. I've dropped a few lbs this week. I would suggest not getting a fill and just log your food for a while and that will help you be more mindful of what you are putting in your body.

Im in the same place you are. Just had my second fill July 10th go for third August 14th. Your's was a donut mine was a loaded baked potato. I'm not sure what is going on right now. I can't seem to eat much but every time I do eat I seem to over eat then I fill up with gas. I'm sure if I'm going for my next fill , I think I'll wait and see how this turns out. I do rather like the fact that I can't eat every thing I see. Sure is hard to push the plate away when the is so good.

Wish you well

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
