familygirl 15 Posted July 13, 2012 Has anybody every heard of someone having a blood clot from Lap Band surgery?
georgia247 9 Posted July 13, 2012 I don't know anyone but it's certainly a risk for anyone having surgery. My surgeon was really thorough about reducing the risks. I had to have an injection the night before my op and obviously had to wear the compression stockings before during and then days after my op. Apparently being heavier puts you in a higher risk category. Fortunately no clots for me but happier to be over cautious cause you never know. 1 DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! reacted to this
☠carolinagirl☠ 18,721 Posted July 13, 2012 during my surgery, i had to wear those stockings that breathed/released to help with the circulation. I also received 2 weeks of lenvenox shots at home that my hub gave to me in my stomach (that didnt hurt one bit) to help prevent this. the drs will take care of you. DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted July 13, 2012 As georgia247 stated, it's a risk for any surgery not Lap-Band specific. Your risks increase substantially when you are obese, hence why Lap-Band patients tend to be greater risk. I was given shots of blood thinner after surgery, they put my legs in these compression things that rhythmically filled with air and deflated to keep the blood flowing, and they encouraged me to walk early and often. georgia247 9 Posted July 13, 2012 Oh yeah I had those freaky air boots. I'm not sure that's the technical term but i had never seen them before. They kinda put them on and they inflate/deflate like a light massage to help with circulation. I also had a blanket that filled up with hot air to warm me up before surgery. honk 780 Posted July 13, 2012 I was super worried about this because 11 months prior to lap band sugery I had a stroke. My surgery was actually delayed by 7 plus months because the blood clot in my brain was not completly dissolved. I believe I got a lovenox shot in the hospital and then went back on my blood thinner pills after surgery for about another 2 months. Knock on wood no new clots. blpchick 50 Posted July 14, 2012 I did develop clots in my leg about a week after surgery. But it has nothing to do with the actual lap band itself. It was from surgery in general. I'm sure it didn't help that I was on birth control as well which also increases risk. I am currently on blood thinners but I did have to do the lovenox shots for 2 weeks after I got the clots and I thought those shots hurt.

I hope everything is better now?!
