I had my 2nd fill 2 days ago, dont really feel alot of restriction, however I tried to eat bread last night and it was a horrible experience! It felt like it was stuck in my esophagus, and it was very painful, so here are my questions. Is it normal for this to happen even if your not feeling alot of restriction when I eat? Secondly, is this a sign that the six cc's that I have may put me in the "green zone" in a few days?

hello....I think its just one of the foods that are not band friendly....I have 7 ccs in my 10 cc band and I have no restriction still....but rice made me feel horrable last night....just like you said felt like it was stuck right there.....all i could do was walk...and kept pressing against my chest ( not thatit helped just made me feel better) ...good luck....

Bob - sorry about the bread but guess what - No more bread. You got stuck and that really doesn't have much to do with "restriction". The opening from your stoma is only so large even without restriction per se. Bread, rice, Pasta all of that "good stuff" is probably a no for you now. Be careful with the sticking as it can damage your band. Toast is a bit easier but my doctor says NO to most carbs with bread being at the top of his list.

i have some yes and no's when it comes to bread, Pasta, and rice. Toasted bread is fine ,especially wheat breads, i do fine with sourdough and a thin slice of well chewed white bread, and a bite or 2 of a doughnut. Brown breads, brown rice and whole wheat pasta are fine, (and yummy !) but i might have problems with anything white because it has a tendency to gum up more than whole wheat products. You may have to experiment to see what works for you, and what you can and cant eat can change after a fill. ( No more raw broccoli after my 6th fill, sigh............... I miss it.) Good luck !

Getting stuck doesn't mean you're in the Green Zone, it simply means either you ate too fast, didn't take small enough bites, didn't chew well enough, or it's simply a touchy food for your band.

If you are in the Green Zone, you should have the following:

-Able to eat 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food per meal and feel satisfied. (not stuffed full, satisfied, no longer hungry)

-Able to 4-5 hours between meals without hunger

-Losing weight (even if slowly)

I found after my last fill, I had to really re-learn how to eat with the band again. I really thought I was taking small enough bites but I kept getting stuck. I finally took even tinier bites and was once again able to eat anything I wanted. It's a constant learning experience.

I agree constant relearning! Slow down is the biggest one!!! you will probably be able to eat bread, just very slowly, Eat small bites. We don't have to eliminate everything, we just have to slow down.

Eating slowly will help remind you that you are full.

I just learned this also. A you get fills you have to slow down and chew even more.

bread is really difficult. Took me almost three years to accept and truly understand the rules.

good luck

My doc says we should be able to eat most foods, just small bites, well chewed and slowly. 3 years and I just got restriction and learned I was drinking wrong. Keep working.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
