Anyone Going To Mexico For Surgery August 28Th 2012

Recommended Posts

I'm having surgery august 28th in Tijuana with dr. almanza-reyes. Is anyone else going that day? I'm staying at the Hampton Inn in San Diego the 27th, the 29th, and heading home the 30th...Wish I could find someone going this day.

Just be sure to find a surgeon to do your fills where you live before having the surgery. Most surgeons won't touch a person who's been banded in Mexico, so be sure to do your homework and try to find one ahead of time. Otherwise you could come home with no one to do your fills or help with your aftercare.

And if you do find one that will accept patients from Mexico, ask them ahead of time what their program fee is and how much they charge for fills!!

I had found a dr. before I scheduled surgery that was 4 1/2 hours away, I wouldn't have scheduled surgery without having a dr. to take care of me first, i was just glad to find one closer and more reasonable in price... But thanks for the concern...

Actually, it is becoming easier and easier for Mexican Bandsters to get fills in the US. I went to Mexico, too and got the same advice. But prior to even scheduling the surgery I found a surgeon to take care of all of my after care. There are even supplemental insurance policies that will help with any potential complications that may arise. I think that most people who make such a life-altering decision do it responsibly.

Rebecca- if this is you, pm me and we will have a conversation!!!

I get banded by dr Almanza Reyes on 8/10. Most nervous about the 3day pre op fast. Afraid I'll eat without thinking about and blow my surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
