OMG - it would make you seem that everyone who has been banded over 6 yrs all start developing problems.... they are awful on that site - to one another especially.

Did it scare me, hell yes.....

now really wondering about the band and the real long term aspects of having a foreign body inside me..... seems like so many are getting revised to the sleeve.

wish i would of never seen that website.

yes, stay away from that forum. no positive or good can come from that..........please take what they say with a pinch of salt and if in doubt, ALWAYS REFER TO YOUR SURGEON.

now it's like seeing a car accident - you don't really want to look....but dang you just got to. I feel sorry for those that have problems and feel like the band failed them - but my doctor says that mainly its the patients who don't consult their dr when something starts to go wrong or just not feeling well (she said that many people just think that it's the new normal) - hell I call my doctors whenever I feel that there is something not right, I mean nobody knows my body better than myself and I always listen to it.

going into this journey expecting nothing but a great outcome with lots of work from me and the extra 'guidance' I'll receive with the band.

i am also sorry for anyone who has (issues) but all surgeries, not just WLS has or could have problems or none at all. i feel it is wrong for them to scare people. please do not go there and read. i know whom u are referring too. there are some people who do try to help and offer support. Best to stick with this forum. i promise you will get all sides and support regardless of the issue w/o the doom/gloom stuff.

:)

Something I've noticed is, the people who coast along happily with their bands seems to rarely speak up about their good experiences. Likewise, those that have issues are usually the ones to yell the loudest and most often. So, the internet definitely paints a very lopsided picture of things.

Furthermore, while I know there are people that have revisions or their band removed because of complications that are no fault of their own, the majority are directly responsible for their complications even if they refuse to admit it or take responsibility for it. It blows my mind the number of people who go into this surgery totally ignorant to the facts, and a result, do things that directly jeopardize their band. They "test" their bands by chronically over-eating, or they go months with their bands too tight, or they're so tight they're vomiting regularly, or they even continue to drink lots of carbonation regularly. All these things can and will lead to slips.

It's little wonder we hear so many band horror stories- they're the ones making the biggest mistakes and screaming the loudest. Just remember for every person you hear howling how bad theirs is or they haven't lost any weight with it (despite the fact they're still living on McDonalds and chugging Pepsi), remember there's many more of us out here silently loving our bands and the healthier, happier lives we've found by utilizing it correctly.

I've had my band for 4.5 years and it doing great. I was too tight and had some Fluid out and the doc ran a scope up my nose and down my throat to make sure everything was ok and it is. I can't wait to start getting fills again in 12 days.

It is true that most of the people that return to these sites come back because they have problems. There are a lot of bandsters out there that have no issues with their bands. I highly recommend the lap bend.

I lost 90 pounds and I recently got a Tummy Tuck, lower body lift and breast lift.

Good luck!

yah, it's crazy over there, that's why I love this site. I do want to hear all sides of things and diligently did my research before being banded, but that site is so so negative. I just stick to these boards. Welcome to lapbandtalk!

I used to belong to that site. Then I found this one and LOVE it. So much more honest and loving over here.

It's nice to hear all sides and you will never really know the whole story from ppl. I had mine put in on the 9th July so it's less than a week and I'm sore and a little freaked at every little weird sensation but I'm thrilled that I'm not hungry all the time and I can't wait to get into some excercise.

Can anyone describe to me what it feels like when your band slips?

I stick to LBT mostly now. I am all for sharing experiences and being honest... heck, I have had my fair share of complications... but there are respectful ways to get your story/experience out there. I feel that board is overwhelmingly hostile at times.

They do it on the sleeve talk site too .band haters .but even when u read there complaints you can still see where they could have done something to prevent it.I just read I dare not ask a question like "did u see ur dr when u first started vommiting why wait 3 months with a problem?" etc.. I reall love this site.even the bad stories cuz there is a lot of good advice and tough love :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
