Tippytoes78 1 Posted July 12, 2012 So, I am 28 days post-op and I was wondering how long the internal stitches (or whatever they are) are supposed to last? One of my incisions has a stiff, poinky piece sticking out of it. It doesn't hurt but sure is annoying. Anyone have this happen?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted July 12, 2012 sometimes the internal stitches don't dissolve and instead work their way up through the skin. I had that happen (at two different surgeries) and both times just gently tugged it out with tweezers. If that makes you nervous, just point it out to your doc and they'll take care of it for you
highland 168 Posted July 12, 2012 It's called a spitting stitch, defined correctly by Mis73. Gently pull it out with tweezers. My brother had a spitting stick TWO YEARS after his back surgery!!! Freaky!

But like everyone said she told me to pull it out or drive the hour over to the office and they would take care of it . Needless to say I yanked that sucker out !!!!
