Healthy Versions Of "bad" Foods

Recommended Posts

For a while I've been tweaking recipes to be a little healthier for example french toast with wholemeal bread, egg whites and skim milk with cinnamon. A little low fat cooking spray in the pan is the only naughty ingredient.

What are your new versions of old favorites?

I make spaghetti with Prego light sauce, whole grain Pasta, and 93% fat free ground turkey (instead of beef). I add some extra seasoning but it's really good.

I also make red meatloaf with 93% fat free ground turkey instead of beef and only use the egg whites rather than the whole egg.

I make mock Buffalo Wings that are superb alone or on a salad. Very, very simple....

Cut chicken breast into strips, put aside. Preheat a frying pan and spray with "I can't believe it's not butter" spray, Cook the chicken to almost done, then add Franks Redhot Sauce (The official Buffalo Hot Sauce) or whatever you prefer and toss till chicken is cooked.

It's not Buffalo Wings, but it sure is delicious! Try putting it on a salad as well. Yummo!

I just made the spaghetti with turkey instead of beef, AMAZING!!! my daughter couldn't even tell the difference. I put a couple of tablespoons of red wine in, do you think that would be detrimental once I'm banded?

Mashed Califlower instead of potatos, my family can't tell the difference. Also love spaghetti squash instead of Pasta.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
