11 Days After Banding...

Recommended Posts

Hi Bandies, I was banded 6/29 I have not eaten since 6/15 I am 11 days in and I am really hungry and I am told to continue Protein Water & Jello I want to eat. The protein water is keeping a nasty taste in my mouth. I have my appt on 7/26 and my first tightening in Sept. I want to eat what do think? Something healthy and satisfying.

I agree to this. I'm day 5 post op and I'm starving. I want real food. Is this common? A lot of bandies I've spoken to said they were not hungry at all? Help

Don't do it! Follow your dr's dietary advice. You are post-op, you have had surgery and your body is now healing. This isn't a fun time but it is a time for sucking it up and sticking to your doctor's rules - they are there for a reason and your long term good health is that reason.

This is normal but you must follow your doctor's guidelines. No ifs ands or buts.

Call your Dr's office and request some kind of relief. If they approve, go for it. Otherwise, suck it up.

Millions of people are banded each year and most have the same liquid requirement that you have. We all sucked it up and did it because we wanted desperately for this thing, called a lapband, to be the answer to our prayers of ending the obesity cycle. Please follow your doctors orders. The liquid diet is put in place for a reason. Is it worth eating something that damages the band? Imagine if you had to have it taken out because you damaged it by eating a solid food!! I know you can do this! Find something to keep yourself occupied. I took lots of walks, did some gardening, and cleaned every closet in the house!!! Hang in there, it really does get better"

5 days post op I was eating Jello pudding, chicken broth, lots of popcicles. Day 7 I had mashed potatoes and it was amazing, days 8-14 was creamy Soups. I hate that your dr told you you still have to be on jello and Water two weeks out.... I havent heard that from anyone else.

You can do it, push through this part...it'll be worth it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
