Nsaids And Prednisone-Erosion

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill today, it was a breeze. All that nervousness for nothing! Anyway, my surgeon told me that NSAIDS and Prednisone (anything anti-inflammatory) can erode the band. I may need to be on Prednisone in the next couple of months and he said that he would have to remove all of the Fluid first. So just a heads up out there that those items erode the band!!

It's the stomach that erodes ....not the band......sorry, just bugs me when people say the band erodes :)

I have to take NSAIDS sometimes for health issues, but take it in liquid form. It is my understanding that the NSAIDS can ulcerate the stomach tissue when a pill sits on the lining ..... this area of the ulcer can then start the erosion process...... of the stomach, not the band it's' self.

I hope all goes well with the Prednisone for you. I have had to take it a couple times over the years and really don't like the stuff.

It is the band that erodes, per Allergan, Inc.

I got similar message from my surgeon today, including Asprin. Does anyone know if this would apply to a daily dose asprin?I didn't think to ask!

Speak with your doctor. There is a type of asperin that does not break down in the stomach. It's coating does not break down until it gets to the intestines.

headacheheadacheheadache

not sure if its a hungry headache or a caffeine headache but I don't know what to take!

I'm damned.

My headache pill of choice was Excedrin, then they recalled it. Then I switched to a cocktail of Aleve and caffeine and I'm pretty sure the PA told me not to take Aleve anymore like I'm seeing here in this post.

Does regular tylenol work on headaches?

Asprin is a NSAID, so the same rule would be true.

You can try tylenol for headache and see how it goes. They do make adult liquid tylenol.

When nothing else will work for me I take a double does of Jr. strength liquid ibuprophen......yes, it's an NSAID, but in liquid form it does not sit there on the stomach tissue. There are also some topical treatments you can find in vit. stores ....... they go on like roll-on. There is also a solid stick you can find at Walmart called Head-on. You rub it on your forehead or back of neck. It works well, but icky in hair :(

jenband12, I switched to Tylenol this past week and it has been helping, I also take it with caffeine. That might be the key to it working.

Before I was banded I went over all my meds I take for my RA. I do take prednisone and Mobic , which is an INSAID with less chance of getting ulsers. I take these daily. My doctor did not tell me of any concerns about these meds. I have to take these meds or I will be in so much pain! Now I am so worried. I go for a fill this Thursday and I will discuss it with him.

I received my letter from Allergan today, 8/4/12, and I want you to know that it states verbatim. "Anti-inflammatory agents, such as aspirin, should be used with caution and may contribute to an increased risk of band erosion".

Therefore, it is not the stomach that erodes, it is the band that erodes. I thought you would find this useful since you didn't think it was the band that eroded.

Like I said, this is straight from Allergan, Inc.

That is what I thought, thank you :)

Just like I posted earlier to Humming Bird, I wanted to let you know that it is indeed the band that erodes not the stomach like we all thought. I received my letter from Allergan today, 8/4/12, and it specifically states that the band is what erodes. Just wanted to let you know so you had the correct info.

Thanks!

Yes the band erodes into the stomach. That means that the band is still intact, it does not break down or deteriorate but the stomach has damages, ulcerates or however you would like to describe it.

Hummingbird is correct.

You I am afraid are misinterpreting the phrase used in Allergans letter.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
