First Fill And I Went Down

Recommended Posts

Went in for my first fill today and all went well. I thought it was going to be so much worse. The doctor helped me up and I drank my Water and got up to go. All was fine. I get out to the front desk and the last thing I remember was getting helped up off the floor. I had passed out in a room full of people. Has anyone else ever went through this?

OMG, first off I want to say I hope you are all right? But please don't say that is normal cause I go for my first fill Thursday and I'm so nervous. Nervous of what it will feel like and nervous about it all. Hope you are doing better.

I read about something similar on a blog somewhere. Seems like it had something to do with the vagus nerve and the fix was taking an anti-anxiety medication before future fills.

Anything that causes us to feel stressed can cause what is called a Vasovagal reaction..

"Vasovagal reaction: A reflex of the involuntary nervous system that causes the heart to slow down (bradycardia) and that, at the same time, affects the nerves to the blood vessels in the legs permitting those vessels to dilate (widen). As a result the heart puts out less blood, the blood pressure drops, and what blood is circulating tends to go into the legs rather than to the head. The brain is deprived of oxygen and the faintingepisode occurs. The vasovagal reaction is also called a vasovagal attack. The resultant fainting is synonymous with situational syncope, vasovagal syncope, vasodepressor syncope, and Gower syndrome which is named for Sir William Richard Gower (1845-1915), a famous English neurologist. See also: Syncope."

Same thing that happens when someone passes out when they get a shot or blood draw.

When I have fills laying down I get dizzy on getting up. But I prefer to have my fills standing up it is so much better for me. Never Never have I passed out.

NO! NO! NO! Do not eat or drink ANYTHING atleast four hours before the fill!! Your pouch needs to be empty to keep anything from going wrong and to get know you are not too tight. Your stomach will swell and get irritated with the fill, which is why you have to liquids for 24 hours afterwards. The lanocane that numbs everything hurts... kinda bad. But it only lasts about 5 seconds. So count to five when he starts and you will get through. The big needle? You never feel it, I just don't look at it.

Don't fear the fill, you need it to succeed!

Hope you were not injured...

I have never had any complications with a fill...and not all doctors use Lidocaine to numb the area around your port. All you feel is a pin prick, like getting a shot.

You do need to follow all of the physician instructions, and these can differ from doctor to doctor. My physician's instructions: nothing by mouth for a minimum of 3 hours before the fill, and then my doctor wants his patients on a liquid diet for the rest of the day AND the day after, then back to soft foods for a day.

I don't really enjoy the liquid diet, but I feel he has his reasons for his directions...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
