One of my biggest concerns and the reason GastroBypass is completely out of the question is because everyone I know that has had the Bypass look as though they have melted in their skin. That is NOT the vision.I know there are other concerns and benefits other than the physical but lets keep it real. I don't want anyone thinking I am sick. I know with the Bypass there is some sort of Vitamin deficiency which has attributed to Hair loss, even though nothing is being re-routed have any of you experienced hair loss?

I did pretty bad at one point. I started taking Biotin and it seemed to help my hair and nails :)

If the surgery is out of the question then my response is mute. However, my experience with the lapband has been nothing but successful. I, too, had some Hair loss but use Biotin and a good shampoo/condition has aleviated the problem. I have lost 130 lbs in 12 months, have kept it off, and am more alive then I have ever been. having been overweight my whole life, living in a healthy body it the best. Once the weight was gone, I was and am more able to concentrate on WHY I eat. THAT is the true struggle. Most of us don't overeat because we're hungry. That has not changed with the band, it has just given me the ability to true be honest with myself about myself. I would recommend the surgery to anyone who is willing to be honest with themselves as to why they are overweight. Losing the weight does not make all you problems go away. It just enables you to more readily see where the issues are.

I'm 2 months out and haven't had any Hair loss at all. Protein is my focus though, it's the first thing I eat and all I have for snack. Maybe that's helping?

I did lose some hair but my age and genetics obviously play a part in that too,and hormones are hiding at my age. Biotin does help, it doesnt stop Hair loss but promotes hair and nail growth much quicker than normal so u can replace the hair lost a lot easier. Some people do not have any hair loss at all, but long term loss of weight can lead to this, i also use the biotin Shampoo and conditioner, i know this works as my eyelashes suddenly got much longer too. I had to take at least 5000mcg tho i was on a smaller dose and it did nothing ..

All i can say is that a small amount of hair loss far outweighs a large amount of excess flesh :)

I have been banded for over a year and lost over 100 pounds. I have not experienced any Hair loss at all. i too have been very diligent about getting my protei. EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! I also did not lose my weight quickly, 1 to 2lbs per week was my average.

I did have Hair loss for about six months. Not sure if it just stopped or if the Biotin 5000 mg I started to take were having an affect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
