Lap Band And Feel Disheartened

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I had my lap band done at the start of March this year and have lost about 5kg but no more.

I have had 3 fills and am still able to fit quite a lot of food in, and havent found any easy way to stop eating.

I have emailed them as the price to pay for a fill is crazy and we just cant afford it at the minute.

Has anyone else had or having this problem? I feel terrible as we paid all this money for the band and it dosnt seem to be working at all.

Is anyone here interested in heloing eachother along? Either by email or by person?

I am living in South Dublin.

Thanks

The problem u have is that unless u have enough fill in your band to start restricting how much you can eat and your feelings of satiety then unfortunately the band wont be able to help u much. The time before u hit this sweet spot / restriction is known as bandster hell and to be honest most people have to rely on sheer will power to get through this time. Its like u bought a new car and then expect it to run without putting petrol in it .. it just wont work .. try and find the money from somewhere or ask the place where u got banded if u can do some promotional work for them like going to their open evenings or something to get a reduced cost for fills ..

I am in london but feel free to message me if u want :)

Just remember the band does not STOP you from eating it only helps to SATISFY you with less food and not be hungry for several hours after. The band doesn't WORK magically on its own. Follow the diet plan your doctor gave you and you WILL lose weight. Good luck to you!!!

I agree with Cazzy, unfortunately in the beginning you have to be the power that restricts food eating. It should work, especially when you see the lbs, drop off.

I measure and weigh my food all the time, maybe that would help. I do not eat 'til I am full. I try to eat 4 oz. of Protein, some veggies and maybe fruit with each meal. I do not eat bread ( very rarely anyway), I don't eat Pasta or rice. I concentrate on protein.(near 100 grams daily)

I have to admit, it was hard in the beginning. I did feel like I was "dieting", I do not want to diet!!!!! But it worked because I started to lose weight, now it is habit. I have learned so much about food and that has helped me to enjoy food in a different way.

YOU can do this, don't give up.

Thanks for the replies. I have always had a problem with eating and not eating properly but found it brilliant at the start as band and stomach were swollen but now I know I need it tightened. The cost is ridiculous for a fill and having to use a lot of our money for the operation we just can't afford another fill for a while. To be honest I feel a little cheated as I did expect more and I know to diet but I could be trying to do that and lose weight without having paid the 4.500.

Just feeling low and crap. Sorry for the whining

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
