Hi. I joined this board last Friday and have really enjoyed it. I'm from Texarkana and was banded 10/26/05. It's been slow going, but it's my own fault. I must admit, I'm not near as knowledgeable about this band as I thought I was. I have tons of questions, like what determines what size band you have? What is the difference of the band sizes? What causes erosion? Do I need to worry about erosion? This last fill has made me PB a lot, but only when I eat too fast or too large a bite...i'm figuring it out. Finally learning not to drink when I eat, etc. Sorry for all the ?'s but I'm just trying to figure out what it's all about...after the fact...ha. I'll admit, I thought the weight loss would be easier, but I still think it's my own doing...or not doing. Nice to be a part of this group!

Hi Machelle, welcome to LBT.

Band size? We were told it has something to do with the size of the person getting the band.

Difference in sizes? Amount that they can hold and the speed with which they restrict. Some bands are 4cc and some are 9 or 10cc.

Erosion? I wouldn't worry about it. What causes it, I do not know.

Hi Machelle I was wondering did you go to school at College Hill and graduate from AHS around 1980? Trying not to put TMI in this post. I think I may know you if you did and you are the Machelle that I remember. I graduated AHS in 1979. M:confused:

Hi. I grew up on Houston and graduated from South Houston High School in '79. I didn't get to NETX until I finally met my hubby that is from Hughes Springs. But, at least you know me now..hehehe.

Oh, thanks for the info about band size, etc. I found out I have a 4cc band, but don't know how much fill I have yet. I need to ask more questions at my visits.

I think so... You're probably like Joy (my DW). At her first fill she just wanted to get it and get the heck out of there. She's needlephobic.

I'm not really needlephobic, but I think fills are very uncomfortable. However, this last one was done by my surgeon's husband, who is also a surgeon, and it was better than the previous 2. I still have a huge bruise though, two weeks out. I'm working on getting my head on straight and just got some pointers from my doc's nurse about it. Hopefully, I'll make some progress before my next visit.

Any good advice for a newcomer?

Hey charli and JTrek:

You both will do great! I have no regrets on the banding, just regret that I'm not doing what I need to do to get my head screwed on straight! However, this has been a great day and I'm on my second bottle of water...great for me! I'm also doing good on the not drinking when I eat thing! So, hopefully I'll see some progress this week! I've decided not to weigh every day and be surprised on Monday!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
