Hi,

I am looking into this procedure with Dr. Deol.

If anyone could give me input on how she and her staff are, it would be greatly appreciated.

I always say the more info you have the better off you are!

Thanks!

Hi BaileyM!

Are you still going with Dr. Deol? I called CORI centers and they sent a packet for me to fill out. I sent it in and have not heard back from them. I've been in contact with their main office and they are very surprised that the surgeon's office has not contacted me yet. Sooo, I was looking into Dr. Deol myself. She has very good reviews and her website is very informative. However, it says you must have 6 mo of a Doctor supervised weight or excercise program to qualify. Have you found this to be true? Have you had your consult? I also read that you must see a Beaumont Internist (not just your own PCP) and the nutritionalist and pychologist appointments are set up by Dr. Deol's office. Have you gone thru this yet? Where abouts are you? I'm in the Grosse Pointe area.

Thanks and best of luck to you! This is such an exciting and scary time!

Debra

Hi Debra,

I have not heard of the things you are talking of.

My first appointment is March 17th, so I will be able to update you then.

I found that the cori center seemed a little more structured and have not heard of anyone n here going there.

Dr. Deol has a very good rep on this board so I decided it was best for me.

I live in plymouth.canton area.

Indeed this is very scary and exciting!

Will keep you posted!

Hi Baileym!

I called Dr. Deol's office on Monday and talked to Rebecca. I was lucky enough to snag an unexpected opening for today (Wed). Rebecca faxed over 14 pages for me to fill out and bring with me. They are both really nice! I was very pleased w/ Dr. Deol. I don't have a date yet, of course, but I'll keep you posted. Maybe we'll be hospital buddies!

Take care!

Debra

Sounds like a plan! LoL

I was offered that same appointment, but my ins. needed at least 3 weeks to kick in.

Too funny!

What was the best thing you liked about Dr. Deol?

What was the worst?

I am so nervous, scared, excited, anxious, frustrated and eager all at the same time.

I think I could be the next Cybil! LoL

Please tell me everthing that went on at your first appointment.... Maybe I could lose a few of my emotions!

E-mail me @ michelleb@fdigroup.com

Thanks!

Baileym:D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
