Feedback From Those With Plication And Band Fo At Least 6 Months Or A Year

Recommended Posts

Hi All, Can some of you who have had a plication with a band (either together or one after the other) please let me know how you are doing? How the surgery and post-op went, what your hunger level is like, how much weight you have lost compared to maybe when you had the band alone, etc? I would really appreciate hearing from you. I had a lap band inserted 2 years ago and lost about 40lbs and then hit a plateau. I've had sever reflux for the past 6 months and now it appears I have a hiatal hernia. I'm going for a repair and a possible plication. Would like to know how folks with the same have done over the long-run (6months or longer). Many Thanks.

Hi, I just posted for the first time on: Help! I'm Stuck In A Rut After 5 years. I had a lap band removal and then a new one put in with a plication done as well, a year ago. It's been fine but I slowly got off my plan this past winter and am now having to relose what I gained during that time. After the surgery, it was quite hard the first few days. I threw up a lot a day or two after I came home (something I had not done with just the lap band) but if I had planned ahead and had the anti nausea medicine and phenergren as I felt it coming on, it would have helped before it got bad. I was throwing up some of the blood from the surgery but that subsided after the meds. It was definitely different for me that time around and had LOTS of heartburn. Your surgeon will want you taking Prilosec during that time for the first month or so most likely. You'll be on liquids the first week or so but by two to three weeks, you should be adjusting a lot better. It was worth it to me. Just follow what you doctor says and you should do fine. You may not throw up as I did. Everyone is different. Hope all goes well for you!

I have only had my band with plication for a little over a month. I went in for my first fill and doctor only gave me .5cc and thats all that's in my band and i am able to only eat the 3 small meals and be satisfied so I think the plication has helped me a lot as far as hunger otherwise im sure just .5cc wouldn't do anything for my hunger

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
