Does Anyone Knw If Flying Effects Restriction

Recommended Posts

For my vacation I flew to Pa. to visit family and friends. I have been here about ten days now and I have noticed ever since I flew here my restriction is so tight and has gotten to the point I can't even keep fluids in. I have visited the E.R. in hopes they could releive the band a little. They have given me the name of a band dr. I can see. But I do have to fly back home and worried I will go through this all over again. Please let me know if anyone has gone through this or something similar. Thanks... Teri

I would like to know this as well. I am getting married in September and then heading to Cabo for our honeymoon. I also have to travel to LA and Vegas in August. I'm a little concerned after reading your post that this is going to screw me up.

How much Fluid is in your band and how big is your band? Were you in the green zone prior to flying? How long was your flight? Are there other times you feel tight prior to this flying incident?

I didn't have any problems when I flew 5 months post op. probably had 5.5 in band at the time. I may have felt a little tighter in the air but once on the ground I was fine. Was grateful for band on cruise! Hubby gained 4 pounds and I lost weight!

I've taken quite a few long and short flights since being banded and it never affected my restriction. I think what causes it to happen to some people is a combination of factors: a disrupted routine, dehydration, stress, etc. The air in an airplane cabin is quite dry, so on your flight home I'd try to drink as much Water as possible.

I hope not as I fly for a living! I know someone who works with me that has the band and she doesn't have any complaints about cabin pressurization. I can do anywhere from 1-7 flights a day. I haven't been banded yet, so I can't tell you for sure about how it effects my body.

I have flown a handful of times since April 2012 and I haven't noticed anything different. I have the little crackers they give you on the plane and everything...no issues.

I wonder about this too, as I'm going to France in a few months and wonder how it will affect me. My PA at the surgeon said to treat the first day off the plane as if it was the day of a fill, to just do liquids.< /p>

My doctor said its a must, to get a reduction before flying. The cabin pressure will make the diaphragm to enlarge.

My band is a 10 cc band and was filled to 6.3. But Went to a Dr. here that E.R. had contacted for me to see. Thier office just took out 3/4 of a cc for me so I am feeling much better and Fluid running smoothly through again. AH that is such a relief...lol. But asked Dr. my question and they said yes flying can effect the band restriction and make it tighter. My flight is only 2.20 hrs.. But since they just took that much out I should be good for my flight home. Thank you all for your input...Teri

Yea I understand the worry after reading my post. I guess a few things to keep in mind is that (1) you have not had a fill yet so you may not feel the restriction I have had, (2) it seems like it doesn't effect everyone, which is a good thing, and last, try not to worry. Because I know worry and stress effects us and tightens us up. Good luck on your trip :)

My doctor said its a must, to get a reduction before flying. The cabin pressure will make the diaphragm to enlarge.

The diaphragm? What diaphragm? The one you were born with, in your abdomen? Or are you referring to the band? Or what?

When the band is filled with Fluid, changes in air pressure aren't going to affect it.

My surgeon said that flying should not affect my band all.

I was banded May 24th. I flew to Fl on June 21st. Didn't notice any difference. No fills though

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
