Who Has Had The Band Done At Nyu? :)

I'm going to my consultation on Tuesday. Lets see what happens I'm excited. Did you get a surgery date that day? Or did you have to schedule it when you finished diet requirements? I'm a teacher and would like to schedule during a vacation time.

Hi Spartan. Welcome to the site! Congrats on your journey to a healthy life. You won't get a surgery date on Tuesday. That won't happen till you complete all the requirements and get insurance approval. Once you have that, you can schedule your surgery. In my case, it took nearly four months to get a date, and then I had to wait another three months because I was supposed to be banded in October of last year...and then Sandy showed up and flooded the hospital and it took until January for them to be back up and running. Who are you going to see? I had Dr. Ren and I'm very pleased with her.

I was banded by dr fielding on July 1,2013 met him at initial consult n of course saw him day if surgery . Due to my schedule I haven't seen him for my follow up or fills. I have seen gaspare n frank for my appts n fills. I don't have a single compliant except I wish I did this years ago !! I did have a fight with the billing dept they sent me a bill for dr fielding pa ann who doesn't take my insurance ghi it was all resolved in a month my insurance covered 100% haven't received any bills as of yet but I do keep everything organized just Incase :)

Post op experience was also wonderful. The nurses were VERY understanding and willing to accommodate me if I had pain. I was originally scheduled to go home the same day, but hubby asked the nurse to please call my insurance and request an overnight stay. I was against it at first, but then I realized it was a very wise choice. My surgery was 7/20 and I've had 4 fills with FRANK.... Cool guy, btw. He gave me 3cc at my first fill, 1cc... Then 1.5 cc... My most recent fill was this passed Friday, during which he only added .5 cc because I had lost 8 pounds in two and a half weeks. He said normally he wouldn't give someone a fill with such results, but since I'm starting a new job, he wanted me not to stress about it.

I should also add that they gave Sugar Daddy (hubby) the prescription for my pain medication even BEFORE I was in the OR, you fill it in the hospital's pharmacy.... And it's LIQUID!! I haven't seen anyone else mention their surgeon wrote a prescription for liquid pain meds. Most people have to cut it or crush it.

I forgot the nurses post op were wonderful !!! And I had a little scare with my heart the cardiologist was excellent as well dr Allen shay just wish he took my insurance at his private practice.... I stayed overnight the nurses on the floor well they were ok and couldn't draw blood I wS all black n blue :/ but they were entertaining to say the least especially the nurse and the nurses aid who obviously hated each other but it has nothing do with dr fielding and his staff his interns kept checking in me n were great as well Omg yes the liquid pain meds!!! I didn't take them

But I still have the bottle just incase :)

Was there a reason some of u chose to stay overnight? Should I be prepared for that? Is it common at Nyu?

Like I said, I was scheduled to go home that same afternoon but hubby had the brilliant idea to have them call the insurance and request an over-night stay. That was such a wise decision because that same night I got this TREMENDOUS pain in my abdominal area that it really spooked me (I don't get scared easily) the nurse was there in a heartbeat and gave me pain meds.... The broth they give you though is DOO DOO!! OMG! I didn't eat the entire time I was there. It's a powder you mix in hot Water. Grossss!

There's usually some medical reason for the decision. In my case, I have mobility issues due to joint degeneration and the doctor and I felt it would be better to stay overnight so I could get the blood thinner shots along with the boots that pump air on your legs to keep the blood flowing. I also had assistance getting in and out of bed along with supervised walks. Most people can walk without issue but I felt more comfortable walking with a nurse at my side. Plus I wound up having low blood oxygen issues...which were just monitored and I was fine the next day. Again...it's a decision made based on medical need and most folks are fine as outpatients who go home the same day of surgery.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
